Job Title: Accounting Specialist

Supervisor: Chief Financial Officer

Description: The Accounting Specialist is a key member of the Accounting Department reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The Accounting Specialist will work closely with Case Managers in the organization and other members of the Accounting Department. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for all day-to-day activities to ensure clients' basic financial needs are met and accurate financial records are maintained.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Alphanumeric/Numeric Data Entry Skills
• Computer Skills to include proficiency with Excel
• Possess excellent communication and organizational skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Daily entry of transactions in accounting software
• Generate checks in accounting software to ensure clients bills are paid on time; prioritizing clients’ rent, utilities, groceries, and medical expenses
• Receive and disburse client funds, including cash and checks, to and from Case Managers
• Reconciliation and deposit of client funds
• Assist Case Managers with client budgeting process, when needed
• Electronic and physical record keeping - Maintaining accurate and detailed records for each client, including income, expenses, and transactions
• Prepare Social Security Reports - ensure that client information is up to date with the Social Security Administration, and like agencies, regarding income and expenses for client accounts
• Ensure accuracy of client account balances in accounting software and cash on hand
• Voucher contracts receivables for Shelter Plus Care program
• Answer telephone and assist internal and external customers
• Receive and distribute client mail to appropriate client care personnel
• Other administrative duties as assigned
