Texas Oncology is looking for a Clinical Gyn-Onc Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) II to join our team! This position will support the Willowbrook location in Houston, Texas.

The Willowbrook area is located 30 miles Northwest of Houston and is conveniently located off of Highway 249, providing easy access to Beltway 8, Texas A&M and the VA Hospital. The area is located at a crossroads to three of the best school districts in the Houston area. Willowbrook mall boasts the 3rd largest retail chain in greater Houston and offers endless possibilities for shopping, outdoor adventure, golf and cultural events. What does the Clinical LVN/LPN do? (including but not limited to)

Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Maintains efficient patient flow, assists with patient care, i.e. vitals, assessments and procedures. Maintains physicians schedule and performs miscellaneous tasks assigned by physicians. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

* Provides general nursing care to patients. * Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

* Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.

* Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.

* Administers prescribed medications as directed.

* Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing.

* Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.

* Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.

* Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician.

* Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.

* Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.

* Maintains patient files, records and other information.

* Initiate IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

* High school graduate or equivalent. * Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing. * Minimum three (3) years experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN). * Phlebotomy experience preferred. * Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state. * Current BLS certification required.

Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients.
