Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatry (SLCC Employees Only)

Provide primary mental health care to students, faculty, and staff in a multi-campus, integrative, college healthcare setting. Assess and diagnose mental health problems including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse, loss, grief, adjustment issues, and difficulty coping. Treat with full scope of therapeutic skills and referral when necessary.
The Center for Health and Counseling (CHC) at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is an integrated student health center. The CHC provides primary health, mental health, and health promotion services for SLCC's adult student population. Our purpose is to promote healthy bodies, minds, and lives for both personal and academic achievement. Fulfilling this purpose requires a collaborative culture of excellence, leadership, and respect.
Employee hired into this position is required to be physically located on campus in a health clinic setting.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
* Assess, diagnose and treat students with a focus on mental health promotion, wellness and disease prevention. * Assist patients to address underlying issues, encouraging participation in their treatment plan and emphasize patient education while respecting individual. * Provide skilled crisis intervention and outreach. * Participate and coordinate duties and tasks with other Center for Health and Counseling staff including medical assistants, counselors, health educators, massage therapists and clerical staff to ensure low-cost, accessible, holistic health/wellness care. * Enter and chart information into the electronic medical records system. * Provide electronic media literacy. * Document all scheduled visits and interactions with patients. * Advocate and maintain quality health care by individually meeting or exceeding OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, GRAMA, FERPA, AAAHC accreditation, and occupational health standards as well as participate in other quality improvement programs. * Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
* Current license as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Utah, with a specialty in mental health. * Master's degree or higher in nursing from an accredited college of nursing. * National board-certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. * Prescriptive privilege in the State of Utah. * Minimum of one (1) year paid, full-time (or equivalent) advance practice mental health care experience, after license. (May substitute one (1) year paid, full-time (or equivalent) experience as a mental health provider utilizing an advanced degree). * Certification in BLS or ACLS.
Preferred Qualifications
College health related work experience.
Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
Experience working with a diverse patient population.
Experience with a second language is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat students, with a focus on mental health promotion, wellness, and disease prevention. * Assist patients to address underlying issues, encouraging participation in their treatment plan and emphasize patient education while respecting individual. Provide skilled crisis intervention and outreach. * Mindful participation and coordination of duties and tasks with other Center for Health and Counseling staff including other nurse practitioners, medical assistants, mental health counselors, health educators, massage therapists and clerical staff to ensure low-cost, accessible, holistic health/wellness care. * Advocate and maintain quality health care by individually meeting or exceeding OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, GRAMA, FERPA, AAAHC accreditation, and occupational health standards as well as participate in other quality improvement programs. * Knowledge of electronic medical charting and electronic media literacy. * Extraordinary problem solving and analysis, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. * Competency working in independent settings. * Commitment to patient-centered health and wellness services. * Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. * Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
