1. A Firefighter/EMT shall respond to emergency calls and initiate whatever firefighting or rescue procedures are required; including the evacuation and stabilization of person(s) involved;
2. Shall report directly to Shift Commander; however; in the absence of one of the shift officers; the department-designated Acting Lieutenant shall be appointed next in charge and compensated in accordance with the existing contract;
3. Shall attend training courses; read and study assigned materials related to fire prevention; fire fighting and emergency medical aid; and participate in related drills;
4. Shall respond on emergency ambulance and render medical aid as required; remove persons from danger and perform rescue to the skill level of certification;
5. Shall follow all protocols as established by the Medical Resource Director to the level of certification.
6. Shall respond to fire alarms with a company; operate pumps; aerial ladders and auxiliary equipment; lay and connect hose; maneuver nozzles and direct fire streams; raise and climb ladders; use chemical extinguishers; bars; hooks; lines; and other equipment in a prescribed fashion; ensuring that such actions are consistent with the instructions of the fireground commander; and shall perform salvage operations;
7. Shall assist various department bureaus and divisions in their assigned tasks;
8. Shall have the ability to endure extended periods of intensive physical activity in all types of weather;
9. Shall obey all orders; rules; and regulations of the department and City;
10. Drive assigned emergency apparatus to and from emergency calls and operate its pumps and other mechanical equipment as required; keep inventory of tools and equipment on the apparatus;
11. Drive or attend emergency ambulance to and from emergency medical aid calls; keep inventory of equipment and supplies on the ambulance;
12. Clean and service the assigned apparatus or ambulance and maintain it in a good condition of readiness; report mechanical failures or difficulties to the vehicle maintenance division and instruct relief driver in equipment operation;
13. Conduct investigations consistent with job responsibilities and as assigned by a higher authority;
14. Makes preventative checks of public or private buildings to reduce the possibility of fire or injury incidents;
15. Whenever necessary; shall take whatever life saving measures necessary to prolong the life of any victim of accident; injury; or assault; and shall continue such efforts until proper medical assistance is available;
16. Shall have in their possession at all times a valid New Hampshire Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and their official department identification;
17. Shall not leave their assignment or area during the tour of duty; except with the permission of the supervisor or upon urgent emergency business requiring their immediate attention; or when directed to do so by the dispatcher when the need arises to assist;
18. Shall consistently direct their best efforts to accomplish tasks assigned to them that end intelligently and efficiently; and shall hold themselves in readiness at all times to answer the calls assigned and obey the orders of their superior officer;
19. Identify incidents that are potentially serious public safety or governmental problems;
20. Coordinate efforts with other personnel in the department so that teamwork may ensure continuity of purpose and maximum achievement of fire/ems objectives;
21. Maintain protective clothing and equipment in a functional; presentable condition;
22. Assist citizens requesting assistance or information; courteously explain any instance where jurisdiction does not lie with the Fire Department and suggest other procedures to be followed;
23. Be accountable for the securing; receipting; and proper transporting of all property coming into their custody;
24. When person in charge; shall maintain the security of offices and building by ensuring all doors; windows; and safes are closed and secured; all electrically operated office machines that require power shut downs to be shut off at the end of the day; and that all applicable alarms are engaged;
25. Shall take corrective measures in hazardous or unsafe conditions and report incidents outside their control to the appropriate authority;
26. Is required to minimize the liability of the City to this end: shall correct or report any hazards or deficiencies in City buildings; equipment; or rights-of-way;
27. Shall have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions;
28. Shall perform any other duty assigned.

Customers include citizens requesting assistance or information as well as personnel in various departments.
Requirements
The position is required to perform skilled work including but not limited to; fire suppression; technical rescue; vehicle extrication and provide medical care to sick or injured. The position includes driving of emergency EMS and Fire apparatus. Candidate must possess the ability to operate in stressful situations.
