As an Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider, you will work alongside EM Physicians, other EM APPs, and EM nurses and staff to take care of patients and save lives. Though APPs in this role will collaborate with and share all patients with physicians, autonomy is both encouraged and fostered. Our EM APPs will learn to manage acute and chronic conditions with increasing independent expertise and are encouraged to practice at the top of their license. Although the focus of this role is primarily clinical, there will be Career Development opportunities with access to get involved in Education, Administration and Leadership. 

Augments a physician's ability to provide patient care services by independently and interdependently scheduling, supervising, and/or conducting complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and/or surgeries in the Emergency Medicine setting.  Participates independently in the delivery of direct patient care within the scope of the individual authority granted by the North Carolina State Boards of Medical Examiners.

North Wilkesboro, NC is conveniently located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains a key city to Western North Carolina since 1891. The Blue Ridge Parkway provides a 1-to-2-hour drive to the north and west, and North Carolina's beaches are close enough to enjoy during long weekends. The surrounding countryside is home to wineries, top race shops and museums, multiple hiking and canoe trails to have something for everyone.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
  • Licensed, or eligible, for North Carolina as an NP or PA.
  • Nurse practitioners must be ENP certified or eligible to sit for ENP boards within 6 months. 
  • BLS, ACLS, and ATLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing emergency medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and service for quality patient care.  Records data and tentative conclusions for review by physician.
  2. Coordinates and schedules laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures.  Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  3. Carries out complex patient care services under indirect physician supervision using advanced medical knowledge.  Monitors progress of patients, maintain a record of the patient's progress, and consults with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.
  4. Plans and schedules work for the physician's health team ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of assigned duties.
  5. Participates in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician.  Prepares statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  6. Teaches students, residents and interns in complex techniques and procedures, which are unique to Emergency Medicine.
  7. Ensures complete and accurate documentation in the medical record of assessment and plan of care.
  8. Participates in continuing education in emergency/ urgent care.
  9. Remains up to date with department and hospital policy and guidelines.
  10. Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
