Job Description
The Emergency Services Tech 2 provides assistance to Emergency Room staff by performing approved patient treatments and procedures under supervision. The Emergency Services Technician 2 participates in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, assists patients during their stay, and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the work area. Uses established guidelines to accomplish tasks while using critical thinking skills. Serves as the subject matter expert for the electronic medical record documentation and clinical processes. Coordinates regulatory and compliance needs of the clinic. Works under nursing supervision. Serves as a unit champion for patient experience, throughput, preceptor/mentor for new team, assists with educational tasks, and a resource for complex and/or difficult patient needs.

Responsibilities
1. Patient Care a. Accurately and safely performs and documents procedures under the direct supervision and direction of appropriate personnel such as phlebotomy, bedside glucometry, in and out urinary catheterizations, crutch training, splinting, EKG's, IV catheter/saline lock removal, and bladder scanning under the supervision and direction of appropriate personnel and in a professional and caring manner. b. Assists providers and/or clinical nurse with bedside procedures and follows appropriate procedures for obtaining, handling, and processing specimens and cultures. c. Highly efficient in performing phlebotomy and blood culture collection. d. Expediently answers patient call lights, assists patients with personal hygiene and other activities of daily living (e.g., dressing, ambulation) in a caring and understanding manner, and efficiently maintains an attractive, comfortable, and safe environment for patients with special consideration to room cleanliness, ventilation, lighting, and patient safety. e. Participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge by greeting patient and their families, orienting patients to their environment, taking patient vital signs, and completing necessary paperwork, as needed, in a timely and efficient manner. f. Provides for safe care of patient clothing and valuables by accurately describing and securing items in the prescribed manner. Ensures the adequacy and cleanliness of patient linens by efficiently maintaining supplies at all times and utilizes sterile techniques in setting up sterile trays. 2. Collaboration & Partnership a. Answers incoming telephone and intercom calls and takes and relays messages to appropriate personnel using proper judgment regarding interruptions and paging. b. Assists in providing proper identification and care for deceased patients and comforts family members in times of sorrow. 3. Quality a. Ensures that work area is kept neat, clean, orderly, and safe at all times. b. Understands and adheres to corporate compliance procedures, accrediting bodies standards and the ethical and religious directives when providing care. c. Understands and aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information. Understands the correct and prompt actions to take during emergency situations and able to document such events in the electronic safety system timely and effectively. d. Maintains adequate inventory levels by preparing and submitting customized requisitions for supplies and equipment, verifies that ordered supplies are received and disbursed, and ensures that requisitions are properly filled. Proactive in communicating and obtaining "key" items in collaboration with unit leadership. e. Participates in quality improvement initiatives including but not limited to gathering and trending data and actively supporting process changes that foster improved quality of care and process. f. Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards. g. Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities and resources in a prudent and efficient manner in order to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high-quality health care services. 4. Other Duties As Assigned a. Provides training and orientation to new team members on policy and procedures and workflow of department operations in assisting to achieve Clinical Excellence and Regulatory Compliance. b. Assist with stocking and ordering of linen, supplies, and nourishments for the unit. c. Performs other duties as assigned or requested. 5. Clinical excellence and regulatory compliance a. Serves as a super user or expert in electronic health record documentation and works closely with other medical assistants to ensure compliance and competency in documentation standards. b. Responsible for oversight of regulatory processes to include performing daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring of logs along with measuring compliance for such activities. c. Assists and performs medical record auditing of clinical documentation and works closely manager and/or supervisor to determine documentation improvement strategies when needed. d. Provides training and orientation to new team members on policy and procedures and workflow of operations. e. Works closely with manger and/or supervisor to audit patient care task.
