Description

SAIC is seeking a Vice President specializing in employment law (VP Legal – Employment) to join a collegial and collaborative legal team within the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in labor and employment law, particularly within the defense, national security, and/or advanced technology sectors. They will be a creative and flexible attorney who thrives in an employee-centered environment at a company that understands that its success begins and ends with its people. As VP Legal – Employment, you will be responsible for providing tactical legal guidance on a wide variety of employment matters, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and managing employment-related disputes. You will collaborate with HR and management in the Business Sectors and Corporate functions on strategies to maintain a competitive edge in the ongoing war for talent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel on a wide range of employment law issues, including hiring, termination, employee relations, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour laws.
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related documents such as contracts and severance agreements.
  • Lead internal investigations related to employee complaints or grievances.
  • Represent the company before federal and state government agencies (e.g., the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Labor (DOL), etc.).
  • Actively manage outside counsel on employment-related litigation and disputes.
  • Support upskilling and other talent-retention initiatives.
  • Advise HR on employee communications, policies, and procedures.
  • Partner with HR in developing training programs on employment law topics.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • 15+ years of experience practicing employment law as in-house counsel and/or with a reputable law firm.
  • Member in good standing of at least one state bar; eligible to obtain corporate counsel status in Virginia.
  • Prior experience in, or advising clients in, the defense, national security, and/or advanced technology sectors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), the Service Contract Act (SCA), and other laws and regulations governing government contractors.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Business-minded strategic thinker who excels at imparting legal risk and opportunity to business leaders and other non-lawyers.
  • Proven leader and team player who will build excellent relationships within OGC and across the enterprise.
  • Experience with employee benefits a plus.

Target salary range: $240,001 - $280,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
