Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer- Fabric Data Engineering to join the team. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.
Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.
The Fabric Data Engineering Experience & Infrastructure team builds and maintains the infrastructure and experiences that powers Data Engineering in Fabric. The team is comprised of both UX & backend teams, which build services that provide APIs needed for the features in the Notebook, Spark Job Definition and Lakehouse artifacts. The team is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to help architect and implement a wide variety of backend features and functionalities that will enable Data Engineers to achieve more through Microsoft Fabric.

Responsibilities
Design and architect features that span across multiple engineering teams
Collaborate with engineering team to develop high quality software incrementally
Collaborate with Product managers on product specifications and requirements
Plan, schedule and deliver quality software incrementally
Maintain and operate online services
Review changes to product codebase and provide constructive feedback that align with industry best practices to mentor and grow senior engineers
Participate respectfully in design, architecture, execution reviews or other team discussions
Partner with other teams in the organization to leverage work ideas of others to deliver efficiently

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
5+ years of software development experience building scalable, distributed online services using C# or other JVM based languages
5+ years of experience with multi-threaded/parallel programming

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
