EMT Per Diem Evening/Night 8 and12 hour shifts opportunity! Rate: $25.75

Summary:

To provide basic life support care to patients in the prehospital and the emergency department settings. Competent understanding of EMT or AEMT level emergency medicine with ability to deliver patient care in a sophisticated and intelligent manor.

Responsibilities:

1. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria A: Maintains less than 2 minute activation time when ambulance is available. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria B: Evaluates scene safety, proceeds appropriately. Always follows universal precautions Clinical- Patient Care Criteria C: Brings to patient side all equipment required, per policy 2. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria A: As appropriate for patient condition/complaint, performs a thorough and timely history and physical exam. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria B: Develops an accurate working diagnosis. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria C: Develops a treatment plan per service guidelines and/or medical direction, implements care plan, explains same to patient/family, monitors and documents results. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria D: Provides patient care in the Department under the direction of the EMS Supervisor, in consultation with the Emergency Physician and Charge Nurse. 3. medical education Criteria A: Attends required CME/PCE and is current with CME hours, per policy. medical education Criteria B: Maintains EMT certification at all times. medical education Criteria C: Maintains CPR certification at all times. medical education Criteria D: Demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge while in the Department by following patient's progress with physicians. 4. vehicle operation Criteria A: Had no motor vehicle accidents at which the employee was at fault. vehicle operation Criteria B: Demonstrates knowledge of major roadways in Norwalk vehicle operation Criteria C: Meets driving program standards per P&P. vehicle operation Criteria D: Operates vehicles in a safe and courteous manner per P&P. Provides patients and staff with comfortable ride. Parks safely. 5. Equipment/Supplies Criteria A: Immediately upon coming on duty, checks vehicles, equipment and supplies. Completes required documentation. Corrects any deficiencies identified above by restocking, cleaning, repairing, or by following prescribed notification procedures. Equipment/Supplies Criteria B: Reports all problems and deficiencies to EMS management immediately. Equipment/Supplies Criteria C: Maintains vehicle and equipment in a clean and ready state Equipment/Supplies Criteria D: Stows equipment per policy 6. documentation, paperwork Criteria A: Thoroughly and accurately completes all patient care records, per P&P. documentation, paperwork Criteria B: Completes all other forms per P&P. documentation, paperwork Criteria C: Meets medical documentation requirements for charting per P&P. documentation, paperwork Criteria D: Completes all Patient Care Documentation is a timely fashion. 7. professionalism Criteria A: Promotes positive image of Norwalk Hospital EMS in the community. professionalism Criteria B: Provides educational assistance to other health care providers. Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

Other Information:

Required: High School graduate. Connecticut EMS certification or licensure equal or greater than Emergency Medical Technician required. 2 years recent equivalent field experience working with Paramedics in a urban, 911 high volume system. Minimum Experience: two years

Desired: Must have exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and take control of chaotic situations while establishing treatment and situational priorities. Must maintain at all times: Connecticut EMS certification or Licensure equal or greater than Emergency Medical Technician, and BLS/CPR 'certification'. Preferred certifications included; PHTLS, PEPP, GEMS and CEVO (or similar emergency vehicle operator's course). Must maintain a valid driver's license.
