SUMMARY Family Service League is seeking a
full-time
Substance Abuse Therapist for the Family Recovery Center in Bay Shore. The Substance Abuse Therapist would provide assessments, direct care, and facilitation of referrals to individuals who are struggling with mental illness, substance use disorder, or a dual diagnosis. Additionally, the Substance Abuse Therapist would provide support to the family members who are being impacted by their dependency. The Family Recovery Center offers both individual and group treatment models best suited for the clients’ needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES The Therapist will conduct intake assessments. Provide individual and group therapy to adults, adolescents, and children with the full range of DSM diagnoses, including both mental health and substance use disorders, in an acute care, outpatient setting.
Periodic, field-based work required. The Therapist will complete all clinical documentation in accordance with NYS Office of Mental Health in an electronic medical record (EMR). Provide linkage and follow up to clients during stabilization period and immediately following. Coordinate with outside providers and collateral contacts. Attend routine supervisions and team meetings. Coordinate treatment with a multidisciplinary team. The Therapist will complete training and maintain proficiency with de-escalation and physical restraint skills. Abide by FSL’s Code of Ethics. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally. Foster teamwork, work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions. Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization. Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities. Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem. All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in social work or related field required. LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, CASAC, Limited Permit Social Worker, or related licensed clinical degree required. At least 6 months of experience in a behavioral health setting required; clinic experience preferred. Experience working in a chemical dependency program/setting required. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required. Electronic Health Record experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Possible Evening and Saturday hours required.
