Department Summary:
MITRE’s Offensive Operations & Effects department, part of the Cyber Operations & Effects Innovation Center, enables cyber operations by applying software and hardware techniques and solutions. Our evaluations, rapid prototypes, and tools development provide unprecedented capabilities designed to be applied to real-world missions. Our experts provide cyber capabilities including support to operations, reverse engineering, and forensics, while drawing on other expertise as required for specific missions or adversaries. One area of focus is applying data science, AI and autonomy, and ML methods to technology and operations across the spectrum of activities in Cyber Operations.
Roles and Responsibilities:
MITRE is seeking strong technical candidates with a background in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related disciplines, with experience in application to the cyber domain, to join a research and development team focused on investigating new technologies and building prototypes.
Activities
R&D at the intersection of autonomy, AI, and ML and cyber operations
Design and develop automated decision-making and control methods for cyber systems
Design and develop applied AI solutions for decision support and human-machine teaming
Knowledge Engineering (e.g. knowledge graphs, ontologies, etc.)
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience in cyber ops and or Autonomy/AI/ML.
For cyber primary: coursework in data science or machine learning
For AI primary: linear algebra; project work in standard ML libraries; cyber applications/topic familiarity
Technical experience applying AI/ML methods to cyber domain problems.
Must be US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a security clearance.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and a keen desire to learn.
An open attitude to promoting the work of others.
This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of programming languages and scripting tools. (e.g., Python, Rust, Go, C/C++)
Strong Familiarity with AI/ML methods and stacks for deep learning, large language models, reinforcement learning, classification, etc.
Experience applying AI/ML methods and stacks for deep learning, large language models, reinforcement learning, classification, etc. to problems in the cyber operations domain.
Experience with agent-based systems and automated planning.
Experience with modeling and simulation for AI development.
Experience with ML frameworks (numpy, tensorflow, keras, pytorch, RayLib, etc.)
Experience developing/leveraging AI gym environments.
Able to obtain TS/SCI Clearance
