Description:
*Job Summary:* The RN Clinical Nurse in the Emergency Department is an essential member of an interdisciplinary team, ensuring that patients and their families receive high-quality, individualized patient care. The role involves practicing in a clinical environment administered by nurse managers, supported through a shared governance model. RN competencies are derived from evidence-based practice and are steered by a professional practice model.
This role requires adherence to the Nurse Practice Act and the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, it is expected that the RN upholds the patient's voice as well as system policies and procedures, supporting service excellence goals.
*Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:*
- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: - Perform the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation to achieve optimal patient care outcomes. - Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care that reflects cultural diversity. - Partner with patients and significant others to make the patient's goals the focus of the care plan. - Practice using current clinical practice standards.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: - Coordinate the delivery and documentation of patient care that promotes a professional care delivery model. - Demonstrate teamwork and collaborate responsibly. - Participate in performance improvement and research to promote safe, quality patient care.
- Professional Development and Initiative: - Complete initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education. - Serve as a preceptor and mentor for other professional nurses and students.
- Evidence-Based Practice and Research: - Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement. - Participate in data collection and consult experts to address practice questions.
- Resources and Support: - Plan proactively for patient care across the continuum. - Participate in developing protocols to achieve best practice outcomes. - Support the efficient use of human and material resources.
Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. - Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
