At the Virginia Department of Transportation, we have something for you. Our Location and Design Division is seeking a Business Data Analyst Senior to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in our plan to optimize and revolutionize Virginia's transportation systems. Your analytical prowess and strategic thinking will provide essential support to our engineering and project management teams.The selected candidate will be responsible for: •Innovation: Working collaboratively with internal and external customers to identify and implement innovative solutions to help improve division and agency products and services. Building upon knowledge and understanding of Division and Agency business practices to design and implement tools to support and improve performance. Collaborating with engineers, project managers and stakeholders to integrate data driven solutions.•Cross-Functional Initiatives: Performing high level analysis as needed to support cross-functional initiatives. Coordinating across divisions and districts to ensure consistency, performance, and reliability of analytical tools.•Agency Wide Initiatives: Supporting the Division's role in providing data and analysis to support agency wide initiatives. Implementing effective quality assurance and quality control strategies to ensure data and analysis is correct and responsive to the request. •Data Analysis: Analyzing complex datasets to uncover trends and opportunities for improvement. Interacting with multiple interconnected and complex databases that inform various functional groups in support of project development processes within the agency. Ensuring data integrity and accuracy while driving continuous improvement in data processes.•Communicates: Creating compelling website content and infographics to communicate key data insights.•Other Duties as Assigned: Utilizing knowledge of key division responsibilities to independently perform ad-hoc requests as needed to support agency and management initiatives.Minimum Qualifications•Demonstrated skill developing and managing large data sets and integrating data from different sources and across different platforms.•Knowledge of theory and principles of database development, data management, business process improvement and performance management.•Proficient use of Microsoft software. •Skill in working with business and financial information systems.•Ability to apply logic and reasoning to identify and analyze problem areas and recommend various solutions consistent with applicable regulations and policies.•Skill in oral and written communication to build effective relationships.Additional Considerations•Skill in Microsoft products including SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Forms, Project, and POL among others.•Experience defining a business need, identifying a solution, implementing the solution, and monitoring performance.•Experience working in teams to solve complex problems.•Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and policies.•Oral and written communication skills.•Experience working with large data sets.•Demonstrated implementation of data analysis stages to include identify, collect, clean, analyze and interpret the data to fulfill assignments.•Proficiency in data visualization tools and programming languages (e.g. Oracle, SQL, Python, R, Java).•Familiarity with data analysis and reporting in geodatabase software (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth).•Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.•Knowledge of transportation planning, project development and/or finance.•A combination of training, experience, or education in Data Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Information Management Systems, Technology, Communications or related field desired.•Extensive experience in data analysis, preferably within engineering or transportation sections•PMP, PgMP, PfMP Certification or similar training.Special InstructionsYou will be provided a confirmation of receipt when your application and/or résumé is submitted successfully.
