DESCRIPTION

Performs CNM duties as a staff member of the UCSD Nurse-Midwifery Service in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Provides antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care as well as family planning and well woman gynecology care consistent with the UCSD Practice Guidelines. Works in a collaborative model of care with consulting physicians and specialists. Cares for triage, laboring and postpartum patients in both alternative in-hospital birth center and in standard labor and delivery/postpartum units. Works within a family-centered, mother-baby friendly philosophy of care. Perform duties in a manner that is culturally sensitive and appropriate with respect for individual autonomy, beliefs and customs Participates in clinical education of CNM students, residents, medical students and other healthcare learners. Participates in management of CNM service, attends mandatory staff meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Current State of California Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) license, and CNM furnishing certification.

* CNM Board Certified.

* BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get OB ART within 6 months of hire date.

* NRP certification.

* A minimum of six (6) months of Certified Nurse Midwife experience is required.

* Demonstrated knowledge and skill in performing pregnancy assessment and well woman medical examination, identifying medical problems and formulate appropriate plan of action. Must be able to see patients independently.

* Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes.

* Experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and the general public.

* Experience in performing effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload and frequent interruptions.

* Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse populations. Demonstration of a high level of professionalism and excellent communication skills. Ability to function as part of a team. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

* Excellent organizational skills in order to rapidly prioritize activities in a high-volume, dynamic, multiple-demand clinic and hospital setting.

* Identifies patient/family problems or learning barriers, including physical, cognitive, environmental, language/cultural, financial, psychosocial, and spiritual, and provides appropriate referrals as necessary to function as part of a team.

* Demonstrated excellent assessment skills and ability to make clinically sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrates the ability to identify when a patient's needs are outside the scope of your practice and expertise and arranges for additional services to meet needs.

* Demonstrates the ability to work with adult patients of various ages and backgrounds (socioeconomic, cultural, cognitive, etc.)

* Demonstrated experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long and short-range treatment plans.

* Skilled in patient interviewing, obtaining a concise medical history, and acquiring pertinent data.

* Knowledge of the name, abbreviation, and purpose of various diagnostic tests/procedures, including proper scheduling and completion of necessary requisitions and consents.

* Strong computer skills and knowledge of Epic for retrieval of patient data. (Computer skills required; Epic preferred).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Inpatient and outpatient midwifery experience.

* Experience with Birth Center or out-of-hospital birth.

* Experience with teaching and working with medical learners, including medical students, CNM students, and residents.

* Experience working in an academic medical center.

* Experience working with vulnerable patient populations and being able to provide culturally sensitive care to diverse populations.

* Familiarity with diverse cultural practices, languages, and beliefs around childbirth and healthcare.

* Language skills: Spanish, Dari, Haitian-Creole, Russian.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

* Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.

* Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

* Position may involve fixed weekly hours in clinical outpatient sites, variable in-house intrapartum shifts. Rotating shift will include 1-2 night shifts per week.

* Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

* Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $221,265 - $221,265 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $105.97 - $105.97

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
