OVERVIEW:

The Cook is responsible for preparing food for our program participants. Typical job duties include cleaning and organizing, preparing food using menus and nutritional guidelines, creating new recipes, and developing menus. Must know how to cook Chinese cuisines

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in food preparation, meal production, service, and clean-up
  • Implement planned menus on assigned shifts
  • Set up workstations with needed ingredients and equipment
  • Maintain a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen and food service area
  • Prepare ingredients to use in cooking
  • Monitor food item quality at all stages of the cooking process
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Ensure all food and items are stored correctly
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers, participants, and all guests.
  • Responsible for California Adult Food Program record keeping such as attendance and meal production sheets
  • Assist in special meal production for activities/programs
  • Answer, report to, and follow instructions from Food Service Manager, Sous Chef, and/or Executive Director
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in an institutional cooking setting, or similar (preferred)
  • Experience with culinary industry best practices
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods
  • Experience using various types of knives and cutting tools, cookware, ingredients, procedures, and equipment
  • Possess a valid California Food Handler's Card or ServSafe® Certificate (or can acquire within 30 days of employment - company provided).
  • Physical ability to perform assigned duties, verified by a medical professional (within seven days of employment)
  • Tuberculosis clearance verification (provided within seven days of employment - Company provided)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods
  • Great communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
  • Relevant kitchen equipment
