We are looking for an accounting leader to join our team and take on important responsibilities to help Bitwise scale. You will report to the Director, Head of Corporate Finance and will oversee daily accounting operations, manage audits (including historical ones), and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. You will be responsible for improving the efficiency of the financial close process and working with external tax teams to ensure tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Additionally, you will support the integration of new accounting systems and contribute to new business growth initiatives from an accounting compliance perspective. This role requires a detail-oriented, hands-on professional with a deep technical expertise in GAAP compliance, equity and stock option accounting, and global consolidation. The ideal candidate has experience in the Asset Management industry, a strong understanding of technical accounting, and the ability to work closely with a small accounting team to drive process improvements.

What You Will Do

    • Accounting Operations: Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, fixed asset management general ledger maintenance, payroll processing, accruals, prepaids, realized and unrealized gains and losses accounting, and cash management. Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and controls while driving process improvements and operational efficiency.
    • Accounts Payable / Bill Pay: Oversee the accounts payable function to ensure timely processing and payment of vendor invoices. Collaborate with cross-functional team leaders to uphold accounting procedures and internal controls, while maintaining strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve any payment issues promptly and efficiently.
    • Financial Close Process: Streamline and accelerate the month-end and year-end financial close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
    • Audit Management: Lead and manage all aspects of the audit process, including historical audits and overseeing current audit engagements to ensure compliance with GAAP.
    • Technical Accounting Expertise: Provide guidance on complex accounting issues, including stock-based compensation (ASC 718), equity transactions (ASC 505), revenue recognition (ASC 606), ASC 840 (leases), deferred tax assets/liabilities, goodwill and intangible assets under ASC 805, and collaboration with fund accounting on corporate accounting of fund financials.
    • Accounting Policies Development: Maintain compliance with existing accounting policies and develop new accounting guidelines to enhance departmental processes.
    • Global Consolidations: Manage the consolidation of US and international entities, ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
    • New Business Initiatives: Provide technical accounting support for potential new business initiatives including M&A and new product launches/partnerships to ensure GAAP compliance.
    • Tax Compliance: Oversee the external tax firm to ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including timely and accurate filing of local, state, and international tax returns.
    • System Integration: Collaborate with the Head of Corporate Finance on the integration of a new accounting system and HRIS system, ensuring accurate data migration and minimal disruption to accounting function.
    • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a Senior Accountant, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
    • Financial Reporting: Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements (BS, FS, and Cash Flow) to ensure accuracy and completeness. Perform flux analysis to support FP&A with executive reporting function.
What you'll need
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting
    • Certified Public Accountant(CPA) certification or equivalent.
    • Big 4 accounting or large regional firm experience
    • 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience in asset management or financial services industries, ideally with a focus on audit management, technical accounting/GAAP compliance, global consolidations, and financial reporting.
    • Proven track record in managing audits and improving financial close processes.
    • Deep understanding of US GAAP and the ability to communicate accounting issues to both finance and non-finance personnel
    • Experience with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or equivalent).
    • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
    • High attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong organizational skills.
    • Demonstrates a proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving
    • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making informed, quick decisions
