ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
The Accounting Manager will assist the Controller and Assistant Controller with management of financial processes and controls along with daily operations relating to general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll. The Accounting Manager must excel at customer service, written and oral communication, and establishing credibility and effective working relationships within a diverse college environment. The Accounting Manager will review the operation’s cash receipts, payroll, and accounts payable on a daily basis. The Accounting Manager must be self-motivated, highly productive, and have the ability to work independently and solve problems. The Accounting Manager will be a key participant in the review of financial policies and procedures and the development of a new accounting structure.
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in managing the College's General Ledger, including responsibility for and ensuring recurring journal entries and account reconciliations are prepared timely. Reconciliations would include student accounts receivable, OneCard, Dining Dollars, Touchnet and others as needed.
- Assists with the external audit process by providing a significant role in annual financial statement audit preparation, financial aid single audit, pension plan audit, and annual IRS Form 990 filing as needed
- Organizes and supervises the daily recording and reconciliation of the College’s revenue receipts and cash.
- Supervise the Center Card process including issuing and removing cardholders, oversee monthly receipt submission, journal entry, and communicate with users on questions regarding the process.
- Supervises the preparation and posting of investment accounting on a monthly basis.
- Assists the Controller in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Acts as the Business Office contact for Academic Affairs grants accounting and provides reports of restricted accounts to track expenditures against available funding.
- Supervise processing of daily Institutional Advancement contributions and reconciliation.
- Organizes the receipt and reconciliation of Federal Student Loans with the Center for Student Services. Reviews the Student Loan Refunds prior to release.
- Manages the monthly accounting process regarding our current food service provider, including monthly journal entries, process invoices for payment, communication with vendor regarding billing issues, and tracking the year-to-date details.
- Preparation and maintenance of departmental procedures in conjunction with Assistant Controller.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Senior Management.
- Supervise and mentor team members in day-to-day performance of their duties.
- Position is remote with occasional in office when needed
MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS:
- Must have a BA or BS in a Business-related field.
- A Master’s degree or CPA is also a plus.
- Must also have experience with not-for-profit organizations, preferably institutions of higher learning.
- Two to four years of experience directly relating to the duties and responsibilities specified is also required.
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures in a nonprofit college setting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret numbers.
Knowledge of Access, ADP, Datatel Colleague, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Cash Management Systems.
