Accounting Manager
We are a leading regional supplier of building materials, based west of Chicago, seeking a skilled and proactive Accounting Manager to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining our financial integrity, leading a talented accounting team, and contributing to the strategic direction of our growing company.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight:
- Supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end financial closings.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Conduct training to ensure the team adheres to best practices and remains compliant with accounting standards.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Provide actionable insights to senior leadership to support operational and strategic decisions.
Compliance & Controls:
- Maintain adherence to GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Oversee audits and implement robust internal controls to safeguard financial integrity.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for streamlining accounting processes and improving operational efficiency.
- Enhance utilization of financial systems and ERP tools to meet business needs effectively.
Support Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy.
- Monitor costs associated with procurement, distribution, and sales to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- Prefer a Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
- Industry experience in building materials or distribution is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency with financial management software and ERP systems.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
