POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The members of our Property Accounting team do much more than crunch numbers. The Accounting Intern assists the Property Accounting team in daily accounting functions. This is a year-round, part-time position, designed to offer long-term development and career growth. The position requires in-person work in Milwaukee, WI and a flexible schedule based on the candidate's academic calendar.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Create necessary journal entries (pre-pays, accruals, revenue, expense)
- Coordinate month-end close and production of financial statements to guarantee timely reporting
- Respond to auditor requests during financial audits, SOX audits, or any other audit
- Calculate and record appropriate depreciation and amortization of fixed assets, tenant improvements, leasing commissions, and other intangibles
- Interpret complex lease language
- Abstract leases into our Company’s accounting application (MRI/YARDI)
- Assist in the preparation of annual property budgets and analyze variances
- Coordinate with Property Managers regarding property activity
- Support for and adherence to Healthpeak's Corporate Compliance Policies and Procedures
- Attendance is an essential function of the job
- Bachelor’s degree candidates with a strong academic background, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- Independent, self-motivated, creative, and disciplined
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, and Excel
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn new web-based programs used for day-to-day accounting
- Location & Schedule: This position is based in Milwaukee, WI and requires the intern to work on-site a minimum of 10 hours per week during academic sessions (during school terms) and full-time during school breaks. The candidate must be able to attend work in person in Milwaukee, WI, as remote work is not an option. The schedule will be coordinated with the individual’s academic schedule.
- Eligibility: Candidates must be attending a university within commuting distance of the Milwaukee area, as this role requires consistent in-office presence.
