The role will oversee all aspects of the Accounts Payable, Revenue, and Corporate Accounting functions. INSPYR Solutions is seeking an experienced Controller for one of its oil & gas clients in the Energy Corridor of Houston, TX. This is a direct-hire opportunity working a hybrid 9/80 schedule. The role will oversee all aspects of the Accounts Payable, Revenue, and Corporate Accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of upstream oil & gas accounting, particularly in public company environments, with strong expertise in upstream financial systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor the operational accounting teams (Revenue, Accounts Payable, Cost Accounting, and Corporate Accounting) in their daily, weekly, and monthly duties while fostering a high-performance culture.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive financial performance and analytics and improve the flow of financial information within the company.
- Assist with internal and external financial statement audits.
- Develop and maintain robust financial controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual GL close ensuring all tasks are completed timely and accurately.
- Support business development opportunities by providing data requests and leading the accounting integration of asset acquisitions and business combinations.
- Maintain efficient working capital by managing payments of accounts payables and collecting accounts receivable.
- Identify and lead business process enhancements and implementation of best practices.
- Review and approve account reconciliations and ensure that reconciling items are cleared timely.
- Prepare a Controller Package with summarized results and statistics about the accounting operations.
- Provide ongoing and ad hoc training to departments for new or changed processes.
- Develop the accounting team through formal and informal training and feedback.
- Lead or assist with various ad hoc projects as designated.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification is strongly preferred, but not required.
- 10+ years of accounting/finance work experience, with previous experience in a Controller role strongly preferred.
- Significant experience in upstream and midstream oil and gas accounting.
- Experience working in a publicly traded company.
- Prior experience with upstream oil and gas accounting systems (especially Quorum Upstream and Open Invoice).
- Knowledge of GAAP and SEC disclosure requirements.
- Experience accounting integrations with business combinations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in collaborating successfully across multiple teams and levels.
- Must be highly organized and able to multi-task.
- Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
- Must be flexible, adaptable, proactive, and work well under pressure.
- High level of honesty, integrity, commitment, and responsibility.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively.
- External audit experience with a public accounting firm is preferred, but not required.
