Job Description

Cetera Financial Group (CFG) is seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting who will be responsible for leading the Avantax broker-dealer accounting team and the Pershing Shared Services accounting team. We are seeking an individual who has strong knowledge of accounting principles, completing journal entries, maintaining ledgers, reconciling and verifying accounts, and monitoring revenue and expense accounts. This job role also involves interpreting and analyzing accounting data and financial reports and recommending action. The Avantax Broker-Dealer accounting team is responsible for the financial records and reporting for the Avantax broker-dealer and associated Registered Investment Advisor and Insurance Agency. The Pershing accounting team is responsible for reconciling Pershing clearing & custody charges and client fees across Cetera's introducing broker-dealers as well as the financial records and reporting for several other recently acquired legal entities and corporate expense accruals. This position will also be responsible for establishing accounting processes and related controls for a new correspondent relationship with a clearing firm.

This position provides high visibility within the Finance organization with an excellent opportunity to work closely with key executives and cross-functional groups including Commissions, FP&A, and Compliance.

What you will do:
  • Oversee the daily activities of the respective accounting teams and ensure that month-end close and reporting are completed accurately and within required timelines.
  • Review key balance sheet reconciliations and complex journal entries on a monthly basis.
  • Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results and provide insight to FP&A and key executives on business results and performance.
  • Analyze and evaluate accounting issues; make recommendations to management for resolution.
  • Review and interpret financial reporting requirements, rules, and regulations and ensure the team understands and complies with the requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of supporting information for the Company's financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Participate in the identification, enhancement, and timely execution of internal controls.
  • Responsible for establishing data requirements, accounting processes, and related controls for a new correspondent relationship with a clearing firm.
  • Participate in M&A integration and establish any new required accounting processes, including revenue accruals, bonus calculations, management reporting, chart of accounts, and policy alignment.
  • Support annual budget process, including meeting with key executives to determine expense build-up.
  • Act as resource and coordinator for the external auditors; Coordination of all interim and year-end audit deliverables and schedules.
  • Involvement in and/or management of various projects as assigned by the Broker-Dealer Controller such as process improvements, cross-departmental initiatives, procedure documentation, etc.
  • Other job duties as defined.

What you need to have:
  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or related field and extensive knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
  • CPA Strongly Preferred.
  • Series 99 is required. Willing to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Prior management experience overseeing large teams is required.
  • Highly motivated and driven with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, and advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience with Oracle General Ledger software or equivalent accounting software.

What is nice to have:
  • Prior experience in a broker-dealer or financial services industry is preferred.

Travel Requirements: Up to (10%).
