Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Sports & Recreation Manager's leadership, the Sports and Recreation Lead will support the youth sports leagues at the Kroc Center. They will serve as the head coach for Sports & Recreation sessions, will ensure the safety and well-being of players while they are in our care, will assist the Sports and Recreation manager, and ensure prompt and courteous customer service.
Essential Functions
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment. Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently. Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities.

Essential Functions
- Maintain equipment inventory for each sport, ensuring all items are safe and clean for use.
- Support the Sports & Recreation Manager with development and implementation of practice plans, game schedule and We Are Second Character Curriculum.
- Serve as Head Coach for designated sports, be available to communicate with parents before/ after practice, ensure all other coaches are ready to cooperatively lead practice, and guide his/ her own team during practice.
- Ensure each practice is properly set up; equipment is cleaned after the conclusion.
- Ensure all safety guidelines are followed, both physical safety and PTM, handling concerns and incidents according to training and with the completion of any and all necessary reporting and forms.
- Supervise and evaluate Sports staff members.
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to confidentiality, child safety, cash handling, liability waivers, records retention, reporting and statistics.
- Other duties as assigned by Sports & Recreation Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience playing/ coaching at least one of the following sports: basketball, soccer, football, volleyball.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

- Must have a philosophy of education, child, and player development that is consistent with that of the Salvation Army Kroc Center.
- Must have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education including but not limited to: ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages; ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently; ability to handle security and crisis situations calmly; ability to provide constant and continual supervision; ability to engage and maintain a child's interest in activities; ability to present oneself in a professional manner; ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information and documentation.
