Title: Tool Design Engineer (Cold Forming focused)

ITAR/EAR Requirements:

Presently, all positions at Deringer-Ney, Inc. require access to information or technology that is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and/or other US government security regulations. These regulations do not permit access rights to non-US citizens or to other unauthorized individuals. Therefore, all applicants must be US Citizens or US Permanent Residents ("green card holders") to be considered for a position.

Job Summary:

The Tool Design Engineer is responsible for cold forming or cold heading tooling and Die designs, cold forming simulations, tolling design details, tooling materials selections, and the creation of new die/tooling techniques. Will also research new tooling and machine technologies, innovations and processes in order to develop new products, improve on existing products as well as reduce costs and increase efficiencies. Understand tooling and processing of product on the following equipment's: Nakishmada, Sacamura, Wafios, National, Carlo Salvi single Die and multi-die progressive formers.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assess the tooling design requirements for development of complex cold heading parts to include costing estimates of tooling, run rates, throughput and feasibilities.
  • Understand multi facets of design and development of cold forming products including but not limited to: set up, development and operation of single die, multi die, progressive die cold forming equipment, material tensile and tempers and how they relate to product flow and efficiencies, tooling materials (ie: tool steels, types, tempers, harnesses, coatings, finishes, lubricants etc.), machine and product problem solving, enhancements of current gen tooling to improve tool life, reduced waste and down time in process flow.
  • Follow through with tooling designs from experimental to production, in order to determine product feasibility, fitment, functionality and proper application for long term production and maximum profitability.
  • Collaborates in a team environment with project engineers, product designers, process engineers, sales personnel, production personnel, toolmakers, and various vendors to optimize tool design per suggestions of above members.
  • Publishes and disseminates models and drawings to management, sales, customer, programmers, toolmakers, and other users.
  • Assist in ECR/ECN process for prototype and new products.
  • Assists in different stages of Advance Product and Quality Process (APQP) including PFMEA and Control Plan creation.
CAD responsibilities:
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge in the use of CAD software. Must be able to sketch, model, and detail tooling. Must create drawings; detail, assembly, progression layout, and tooling layout for tool and die design purposes utilizing AutoCad, SolidWorks, Invnetor and various other design platforms.
  • Maintains all model and drawing files at current revision levels and develop library system adequate for retrieval of data.
  • Able to share data safely and securely with appropriate customers, programmers, and vendors.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Via training, become knowledgeable with all plant procedures and work instructions pertaining to any personal job responsibilities to achieve and maintain maximum quality performance.
  • Must be able to work with others in the department in a team environment, to ensure success of projects.
  • Must participate and provide knowledge to the success of building of samples, prototypes and tooling per engineering drawings, designs, concepts, and theory.
  • Be able to prepare tooling cost estimates for new products.
  • Determine and establish proper protocol when design or manufacturing problems are involved and requiring trouble shooting skillset.
  • Process tooling analysis and tooling simulation effectively for product applications.
  • Must be able to comprehend and accurately utilize the current company ERP information system applicable to job responsibilities.
  • Must possess sufficient communicative and reporting skills to interact with all local and corporate Deringer-Ney, Inc. employees, management, and any outside sources/representatives to accomplish any/all job-related duties and/or responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
  • Engineering AS + focused experience in cold forming or BS in Engineering with exposure to cold forming a must
  • 5 years' experience utilizing 2D & 3D CAD software.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
