Cath Lab Technologist - Per Diem*
*IMPORTANT NOTE: In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.
PRIMARY POSITION SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in assisting physicians during cardiac catheterization procedures, providing comprehensive patient care before, during, and after procedures, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Cath Lab.
As a cardiac interventional radiographer, you will support physicians in performing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat heart and blood vessel diseases without the need for surgery. This pivotal position requires you to act as a key member of the Cardiac Cath Lab team, supporting all facets of the service line. Reporting to the Imaging Services Manager and under the direct supervision of Physicians, your responsibilities will include preparing and scrubbing in during Cardiac Cath Lab procedures, Angioplasty, stent placement, implants, peripheral procedures, as well as utilizing equipment such as atherectomy. Proficiency in hemodynamics and meticulous monitoring/documentation of cases is essential.
SECONDARY POSITION SUMMARY:
Independently perform diagnostic x-ray exams with minimal supervision. The technologist will float to the x-ray department when the Cath lab is not in use.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education:
- Associate degree or certification in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory setting, demonstrating proficiency in operating and troubleshooting Cath Lab equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct examinations for diagnostic interpretation, assess procedures, and offer recommendations for enhancement.
- Utilize previous imaging studies, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records to optimize examinations.
- Assist Registered Nurses (RNs) and Physicians in providing care during critical situations.
- Serve as a backup for clinical team members as necessary, managing patient flow, conducting EKG tests, measuring blood pressure, documenting vital signs, and administering injectables.
- Operate radiographic equipment, enforce safety standards, and conduct appropriate quality control procedures.
- Educate patients about procedures, equipment, and examinations to ensure understanding and cooperation.
- Adapt and vary work routines as needed and demonstrate willingness to cross-train in related job areas.
- Continuously monitor patient condition and promptly respond to changes in status.
- Assist physicians and medical staff during cardiac catheterization procedures, such as angioplasty and stent placement.
- Scrub, circulate, monitor, and operate equipment on the most complex examination and treatment procedures including intra-aortic balloon pump therapy for critically ill patients.
- Prepare and maintain Cath Lab equipment to ensure optimal functioning.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and assist with medication administration as directed by physicians.
- Provide patient education on pre-procedure preparations and post-procedure care instructions.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout their Cath Lab experience.
- Maintain accurate patient records, documenting procedures and outcomes thoroughly.
- Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills within a multidisciplinary team.
- Exhibit a strong commitment to delivering exceptional patient care while prioritizing patient safety at all times.
- Identifies priorities and executes care accordingly.
- Provides emotional support and comfort measures.
- Applies and monitors principles of aseptic technique throughout the interventional procedure.
- Ensures safe transfer/transport of patient at all times.
- Maintains up-to-date accurate documentation of care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality care.
