Quality Engineer

Supervise, assign, instruct, support and coordinate various quality activities of the Quality Department. Support development and implementation of quality systems. Provide strong technical leadership and support to Manufacturing, Procurement, Engineering, and Quality Management to minimize costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Assist with development and implementation of quality systems, procedures and controls to ensure that products consistently meet performance and quality specifications. Quickly, effectively and permanently resolve quality problems with internal and external customers and suppliers.

Technical / Product & Process Development:

  • Develop procedures, work instructions and quality documents.
  • Perform DOE/statistical experiments such as product qualification testing, process capability studies, and fitness-for-use analysis. Record, compile and report experiments /trials and measurement data, and recommendations in technical reports and chart formats.
  • Document process, program, product, and/or materials lessons learned.
  • Participate in review and approval of design and process changes for measurability, consistency, and impacts to products and processes.
  • Assist with the development of critical-to-quality specifications, test plans, procedures, tools, meaningful metrics and controls for all aspects of manufacturing.
  • Perform PPAP and report First Article Inspections as needed.
  • Implement error proofing measures to prevent internal quality problems and customer complaints. Implement Controls to prevent spills.
  • Provide a strong quality direction and leadership on new product development/program launch efforts to ensure that products meet performance/quality specifications and are highly manufacturability.
  • Provide technical support for Product Development with respect to cost effective, reliable process controls, design qualification, inspection procedures / methods, and quality plans for new products to assure error free launch to requirements.
  • Oversee the qualification of new suppliers and raw materials. Review and approve supplier PPAP packages.
Quality System / Corrective Action
  • Ensure containment, investigate root cause and coordinate corrective action of quality non-conformances.
  • Manage and drive Corrective Action Process. Issue Corrective Actions; follow through to closure.
  • Respond to customer corrective actions. Ensure containment; investigate root cause and driving and implementing corrective actions of non-conformances.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Update and maintain the Corrective Action database and files.
Management & Supervisory:
  • Manage and supervise the daily quality activities of assigned Quality personnel
  • Coach, train, and evaluate performance of personnel
  • Act in program/project manager role on special initiatives involving quality, customer or business issues.
  • Support SPC training, implementation and maintenance.
  • Support all functions performed by Lab & Testing Technician as needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager

Skills & Requirements
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering, Materials or technical field
  • 5 years' experience in quality within a manufacturing environment
  • GD&T, Metrology and calibration experience. Ability to read blueprints, use gages and calipers, and calibrate gages and calipers
  • Experience performing Gage R&R and MSA studies
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience as ISO/TS Internal Auditor (or) performing System, Process, and Product Audits
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, blue prints, charts and graphs, and legal documents.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Technical writing and flow charting experience.
  • Strong problem solving skills in Lean Six Sigma tools, DMAIC, Root Cause Analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management, multitask and action oriented.
  • Experience in performing DOE and capability studies preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SPC.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 and TS16949 Quality System requirements.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Visio); Mini Tab preferred.
