Assistant/Associate/Full (Open Rank) Professor of Mechanical Engineering

The School of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) at St. Mary's University, a private, four-year Catholic Marianist University in San Antonio, Texas, enthusiastically welcomes nominations and applications for a tenure-line position (9-month contract) at the assistant/associate/or professor rank in mechanical engineering. Candidates should possess a demonstrable proficiency in teaching a diverse range of courses within the mechanical engineering discipline. These positions will commence in the Fall semester of 2025. Candidates seeking appointment at the associate professor or professor ranks must present a record of achievement commensurate with the University's criteria for ranked appointment.
This role mandates a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline, coupled with a dedicated commitment to delivering excellence in teaching, research, program development and evaluation, collaboration, and service. Those with ABD designation and expecting completion within one year will also be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Deliver undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering. We seek candidates passionate about teaching and mentoring students, nurturing critical thinking, and preparing future engineers to tackle real-world challenges.
- Research: Establish a substantive, independent research program within their area of expertise, involving undergraduate students. We encourage interdisciplinary collaborations both within the department and across disciplines, addressing global challenges and contributing to impactful research outcomes.
- Service: Actively participate in departmental activities, university committees, and service initiatives. The candidate will foster a supportive academic environment, advancing the career development of underrepresented faculty and students, in alignment with the university's commitment to Marianist values.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching: Demonstrated passion for teaching and student engagement through innovative instructional methods. Prior teaching experience is highly valued.
- Research: A proven track record or strong potential for impactful research in your area of expertise, especially projects involving undergraduate students and promoting diversity in STEM fields.
- Collaboration: Demonstrated ability or potential to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the department and across disciplines, fostering an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences.
