Job Description
Colonial Behavioral Health provides opportunities for recovery to individuals and their family members in the areas of mental illness, substance use disorder, and developmental disabilities. Colonial Behavioral Health serves the citizens of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, and York County.
We are currently recruiting for a Peer Recovery Specialist position within our Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) program. This position provides peer assistance and support with the goal of helping PSH participants maintain housing.

Job Duties
- Support housing permanence of individuals receiving Permanent Supportive Housing by promoting recovery and self-direction.
- Facilitate wellness management and recovery strategies as steps towards achieving personal recovery goals and housing permanence.
- Mentor community integration activities by providing community networking and linkage with social, recreational, spiritual, volunteer, educational or vocational resources.
- Coordinate with other PSH program staff as needed to ensure participants access needed services and/or resources.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (EEO)
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to positively interact with persons with mental illness, substance use disorders and developmental disabilities, their family members, agency staff and community members.
- Must possess good personal management skills - time management, organization, dependability and independence.
- Ability to provide active listening, education and assistive supports to consumers and family members.
- One year of work experience in behavioral health services or with behavioral required.
- At least two years of psychiatric stability and/or sobriety and completion of peer based recovery specialized training. required.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Certification preferred.
