Earthwork/Utilities Estimator

The Earthwork/Utility Estimator is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of projects to be bid. He or she prepares bids, selects vendors/subcontractors, and estimates self-perform crew compositions and production rates. He or she performs quantity take-offs using a complete and detailed understanding of the project scope.
Essential Functions
- Quantify project components assigned by the lead estimator
- Perform earthwork and underground (stormwater and wet utility) takeoffs and pricing for heavy civil projects
- Evaluate and prepare self-perform and subcontract cost estimates of assigned discipline items
- Visit project to understand site conditions/restrictions
- Work with other estimating team members to build the estimate, then price assigned items in Hard Dollar
- Review plans and specifications
- Provide accurate take-offs
- Analyze and enter quotes into Hard Dollar
- Handle solicitation of subcontractors and vendors for their discipline of work
- Assist with meeting DBE participation goals through vendor and subcontractor solicitations
- Establish relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and specialty services
Required Skills & Experience
- 5-10 years of experience as an Estimator working on earthwork, grading or underground projects
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline is preferred
- Field operations experience is strongly preferred
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Additional working knowledge preferred but not required: Hard Dollar, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Agtek, and HCSS (Heavy Bid)
- Flexibility with relocation for assigned projects
