As a Senior PLC Programmer at Samuel Sons & Co, you will play a pivotal role in the integration programming, overseeing various aspects including, PLC (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Delta) programming, HMI software design, Industrial electrical design, networking, and onsite testing. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- 7+ years of experience in the controls & Automation industry
- Degree/Diploma in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, Control Systems, Electronics, Robotics & Automation or similar programs
- Experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Delta, and Allen Bradley/Rockwell Software- RS Logix 5000/Studio 5000) on industrial machinery & Robotics programming (Fanuc)
- Size and select components such as power supplies, sensors, switches, master I/O links, and other control devices for industrial machinery.
- Software development across various platforms (PLC/HMI/Drives/Network/ Factory Talk View Studio)
- Knowledge of Ethernet and I-O Link communication protocols.
- Participate in writing and developing code for new devices and cross-platforms. Configure remote IO with other PLCs or devices.
- Set up PLC Developing project-specific PLC/HMI templates for new machines.
- Simulate, test, and debug machine control systems in-house.
- Create electrical diagrams and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Knowledge of industrial machinery including mechanical and hydraulic functions including the latest safety standards.
- Able to design, program & test from the start of the project to completion.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and operations is preferred.
- Able to lead and work independently as well as within a group.
- Attention to detail; tight deadlines, ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Working Knowledge of MS Office
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
- Strong effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Knowledge of CSA Electrical Safety Standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and program functioning PLC and HMI for controlling machinery lines and stand-alone machinery (i.e. strapping machines) using Siemens, Delta, and Allen Bradley/Rockwell Software- RS Logix 5000/Studio 5000 and Factory Talk View Studio.
- Strong understanding of industrial-level electrical theory and advanced electrical troubleshooting skills
- Develop designs, documentation, and programs according to the scheduled timeline.
- Evaluate that all processes are working accordingly and perform I/O checks.
- Integration and debugging control systems and equipment.
- Install & commission control systems locally on the shop floor.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues as needed on the shop floor. Perform field service work as required.
- Collaborate with various customers, designers, team leads, project managers, assemblers & electricians to identify any problems to produce our machines with a completed functioning system.
- Participate in regular project meetings to report progress, track engineering changes, and identify any action items needed to maintain the project on time.
- Develop, follow-up, and resolve control open issues list.
- Identify potential improvements and provide solutions; ensure quality control.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
