WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt SALARY RANGE: $59,807 - $73,124
Minimum - Maximum PAY GRADE:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absences due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the schools of the District.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
* Registered nurse's degree (RN) * Meet State certification requirements * C.P.R. /First Aid certification
Special Skills/Knowledge:
* Demonstrate interest in and aptitude for the work to be performed
Experience:
* Have practiced as RN at least 3 years preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Works under the direction of the Coordinator for Health Services, principals, teachers and other staff members in planning the school health program. * Makes home visits when such are deemed necessary. * Makes health appraisals to determine health needs of students, assists in procuring health examinations when indicated, and contacts parents or guardians to explain screening results and recommend follow-up. * Performs first aid for injuries and minor illnesses; works toward the control of communicable diseases; follows up the recommendations of doctors in regard to remedial defects; observes early signs of illnesses and defects and assists the teacher in observing students; notifies parents and/or others of injuries of serious illness. * Performs health screenings as mandated by state and local policy. * Interprets school policies and health information obtained from any appraisals on students to the teacher, student, parent, doctor and community as needed. * Provides information to teachers, students and their parents about available medical and health resources and services through P.T.O. programs, classroom demonstrations, etc. * Assists in the coordination special health services, doctors and public health personnel in regards to community health; and encourages corrections in environmental conditions which may be detrimental to the health and safety of students/staff. * Assists in surveys/assessments for exceptional children and collaborates with the Special Education department. * Maintains emergency care forms for students; secures emergency medical care if the parents or emergency contacts cannot be reached; notifies parents and/or others of accident or serious illness of student. * Assists with the annual health service reports and in planning for health services. Assists in planning budget for supplies as needed. * Provides continuing education information needed for license use renewal when requested by supervisor. * Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others. * Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Nurse Aide rotating
Any students assigned to nurse's office
Personnel assigned by principal to give medications in case school nurse is away from office
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Ability to work independently, communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policies and procedures;
maintain emotional control under stress. Work with multiple tasks at the same time, prioritize work to meet deadlines, work with frequent interruptions and maintain confidentiality. Ability to lift and carry a student up to 45lbs and/or carry a student over 45lbs with assistance. Ability to stoop, stand, kneel, crouch, walk and/or be mobile. High-risk exposure to blood borne pathogens/communicable diseases, responds and administers CPR - if necessary - until help arrives.
