Job Duties

The Chickahominy Health District is seeking a compassionate and highly motivated Physician Assistant who is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals and improving the health of the community. This position works collaboratively with our medical team to deliver quality patient care in the following program areas: "Every Woman's Life" (program for the prevention and early detection of breast and cervical cancer), family planning (including annual wellness exams, contraception management), immunizations, maternity care (non-high risk), men's health, newcomer/refugee health, STIs, and TB. Direct clinical care duties include obtaining a complete health history, performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests and procedures, interpreting test results, prescribing appropriate therapy, referring to specialty care as needed, and developing an appropriate plan of care for management. Other duties may include participating in emergency preparedness exercises, responding to public health emergencies and disasters (e.g., outbreaks, pandemics), and collaborating with our population health team on community health improvement efforts.

The Physician Assistant works under a practice agreement with a supervising physician in accordance with state regulations and Virginia Department of Health guidelines. While the position is expected to provide medical care with a high degree of independence and usually without direct supervision, the supervising physician is always available for consultation, either onsite or by phone/video call.

This position requires travel throughout the district, which includes the counties of Hanover, New Kent, Goochland, and Charles City.

This position requires active licensure as a Certified Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This position may be eligible for up to a $3,000 sign-on bonus, or up to 40 hours of frontloaded annual leave, contingent upon a one-year employment commitment with the Chickahominy Health District.

Minimum Qualifications

* Knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical medicine and public health * Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing * Ability to assess situations, resolve within scope of ability, or escalate as appropriate * Ability to respond effectively to emergencies, both actual events and drills * Ability to maintain professional demeanor in all aspects of role * Actively licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Virginia Board of Medicine * Physician Assistant Certification (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Additional Considerations

* A minimum of three (3) years of previous clinical experience is preferred. * Bilingualism with fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required. * Experience working in a community health clinic or public health setting is preferred but not required.
