Job Summary The Labor Relations Director will be responsible for partnering with all levels of GAF leadership, Human Resources, and Legal to develop and execute strategies for ensuring positive labor relations at GAF. The Labor Relations Manager will oversee the coordination, administration, and management of all aspects of labor relations related to collective bargaining unit employees to ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and federal and state employment regulations while providing consultation, training, and constructive conflict resolution for and between company leadership, union leadership, and bargaining unit employees. This position also has the responsibility for developing and delivering a comprehensive union avoidance strategy and plan for the non-union plants. Responsibilities: Develops and executes a labor relations strategy by working with GAF leadership, Human Resources, and Legal to achieve business objectives and results. Works directly with and facilitates communication between company leadership, operations leadership, union leadership, Human Resources, bargaining unit employees, and legal counsel on matters pertaining to bargaining unit employees and the collective bargaining agreements. Manages, interprets, consults, and resolves conflicts associated with the negotiated terms of the collective bargaining agreements. Represents GAF as chief spokesperson in collective bargaining negotiations for comprehensive collective bargaining agreements in multiple bargaining units including responsibility for all activity including grievance administration, arbitration preparation, union meetings, contract administration, and contract negotiation preparation. Promotes collaborative labor relations with local unions consistent with the collective bargaining agreement and business objectives. Develops and maintains progressive relationships with local union leadership and union committees. Reviews and analyzes collective bargaining agreements and personnel policies and procedures and develops recommended bargaining positions, involving all levels of management in goal-setting. Works with all areas within GAF to ensure the terms of the collective bargaining agreement are properly adhered to and executed. Coaches and counsels management and Human Resources on the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements and all other labor relations topics. Conducts investigations and facilitates the resolution of employee complaints and grievances, including responsibility for gathering data and responding to information requests. Assists with the preparation for and conducting of arbitration proceedings. Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws. Works with field Human Resources teams, maintains applicable Labor Relations metrics, and prepares statistical reports on types and frequency of actions taken concerning grievances, arbitration, and related labor relations activities to identify trend data. Partners with all areas of Human Resources to analyze trends and metrics, identify business needs, and develop integrated solutions, programs, and policies in support of business strategy. Develops and provides training for managers, supervisors, and HR professionals who oversee bargaining unit employees on how to uphold the negotiated terms of collective bargaining agreements. Develops and manages a union avoidance strategy and plan for the non-union plants. Ensures the plan is consistently executed throughout manufacturing. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent experience in Human Resources, business or related field. Required Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) in HR or related field. Preferred 5+ years of demonstrated labor relations experience (grievance, contract administration, negotiations and/or strategy accountabilities). Required 7 years of Human Resources experience. Required Direct experience with writing and interpreting collective bargaining agreements. Required Direct experience with handling and resolving grievance procedures including settlement negotiations and contributing to the preparation of arbitration sessions. Required First chair / primary negotiating experience for union contract negotiations including overall strategy, proposal generation, and bargaining table experience. Preferred Formal conflict mediation experience or training. Preferred Labor Relations and/or HR experience in a large manufacturing environment. Preferred Demonstrated advanced problem solving, conflict resolution and interpersonal communication skills with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, employees, HR colleagues, agency representatives, and union representatives and to influence the various groups. Working knowledge of and ability to uniformly and appropriately apply federal, state and local laws concerning labor relations and employment. Strong public speaking, written, and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to varied audiences, including management and front-line employees. Demonstrate a high level of social and emotional intelligence. Ability to function effectively in an intense labor relations environment. Excellent organizational skills and be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently or in teams. Travel Requirements:
