Position Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Supervisor APRN is a licensed independent member of the health care team (under the provisions of FS 464.012 or FS 458.347) who assumes advocacy and responsibility for self and others under his/her direct supervision. The APP supervisor provides a single standard of care to all patients in collaboration with the medical team to include, but not limited to, acts of medical diagnosis, treatment, prescription, ordering and/or interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, teaching, participate/conduct research, and orientation of new members of the health care team. Duties & Responsibilities: Job specifics: Clinical Uses and role models the assessment process to provide, modify, and coordinate care and patient/family education. Performs a comprehensive patient assessment inclusive of psychosocial, maturational and spiritual needs, pain status, incorporating advanced theoretical and experiential expertise. Searches for evidence/data with a potential for new problem discovery. Utilizes critical analysis in formulating a goal directed, prioritized plan of care. Performs a complete physical/psychological examination. Determines need for/order/obtains appropriate diagnostic studies. Interprets results of diagnostic studies. Makes a medical diagnosis based upon interpretation of assessment, history, physical exam and diagnostic findings. Prescribes, evaluates therapeutic effect and modifies medications. Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice. Acts as a clinical resource in assessing complex patient care or other varied situations and in determining interventions, as appropriate. Provides, institutes, monitors, and evaluates continuing care of acute and chronically ill patients. Performs selected clinical skills and procedures as delineated in their specific Medical Staff privileges (Delineation of privileges, DOP). Incorporates knowledge of current clinical evidence and technology in making sound decisions/judgments and resolving problems using scientific methods and intervention strategies. Makes referrals for follow-up to appropriate community resources. Collaborates with other specialties to ensure interdisciplinary management and continuity of care for both inpatients and outpatients. Serves as a role model reflecting current trends in advanced practice. Screens surgical/procedure patients for appropriateness of surgical procedure and assesses risk/benefit of procedures for specific patients'-manages high-risk, critically ill patients with physicians and the multidisciplinary team. Keeps patients/surrogates informed of their medical condition and the plan of care. Provides input and expertise in the development of nursing policies, procedures, protocols and standards of care. Provides leadership in coordinating discharge planning with the multidisciplinary team. Job specifics: Leadership Reports to Director of Advanced Practice Providers with a dotted line to manager/director of assigned department. Works with the manager/director of the assigned department to prioritize organizational initiatives and goals. Responsible for coordination of all APP workflow and staffing for the assigned department. Recognizes opportunities for improvement in the assigned clinical area and organizes initiatives to improve quality of care and decrease length of stay for inpatients. Assumes responsibility for assessing the ongoing competence of APPs and oversees the orientation process for new APP staff members. Accountable for controlling overtime (OT) and assesses APP workflow to minimize OT. Communicates appropriately using the chain of command. Organizes and leads APP team meetings. Evaluates the performance of all APPs in his/her span of control. Provides real-time education for nursing and ancillary staff as needed. Keeps manager/director of assigned department and Director of Advanced Practice Providers aware of current concerns. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Required Qualifications: Experience: Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Two years of experience as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and one year leadership experience preferred. Education Master's degree is required, Doctorate's degree is preferred. Skills: Nursing Competencies : Ability to understand, respects and accommodates patients preferences and needs with regards to their individual beliefs, customs and practices. Must have ability to clearly, accurately and effectively provide information to doctors, other nurses, patients, and family members. Must have ability to show compassion, patience and maintain non-judgmental approach to patients, their families as well as other employees and customers. Unit Specific: Must have clinical knowledge, skill and ability to fully and accurately complete all required unit competencies, as indicated in the unit competency check-list. Credentials: Valid Florida APRN license is required. (Acute) American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.
