Head Varsity Track and Field Coach, Upper School

The Harker School seeks a Head Varsity Track and Field Coach for the Upper School Athletic Program. The season begins now and runs through May 31st, 2025.

Pay Range: $25.00 - $33.00 per hour

Position Summary

Our coaches must be committed to the personal development of our student-athletes. This includes teaching them skills relating to the sport. As a coach, you must also help students develop a competitive nature, teach them about ethical behavior, good sportsmanship, and assist in the development of leadership and life skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assumes the responsibility for safely and effectively managing groups of students.
2. Organizes practice plans and game plans.
3. Communicates effectively with AD, other staff, students, and parents.
4. Stays informed regarding weekly sports emails, updated developments, and changes.
5. Follows all guidelines as expressed in Upper School Coaches Handbook.
6. Completes miscellaneous tasks and duties as requested.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

1. Attends coaches meetings and mandatory seasonal parent meetings.
2. Ensures students are participating in a fair and sportsmanlike manner.
3. Ensures safety and decorum of students while traveling to away games.
4. Maintains knowledge of league, section, and state bylaws pertaining to their sport.
5. Provides guidance for middle and/or lower school programs where applicable.
6. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements

1. Coaching students (Ages 13-19).
2. Experience in or having a background in the sport interested in coaching.

Working Conditions

1. May be subject to extended periods of time standing or walking.
2. Majority of time may be spent outside resulting in exposure to extremes in either heat or cold as weather and temperatures vary.

Qualifications

1. At least 18 years of age.
2. Experience working with children preferred. Must be comfortable working with and around school-age children.
3. First Aid/CPR certified.
4. 1 to 2 years coaching experience (preferred).
