Job Summary: Oversees the administration of all financial aid programs at all schools of Bethel University so that an optimal number and quality of students are able to begin and continue their enrollment. Administers the acquisition, use, and reporting of funds obtained from federal, state, and private sources. Works to achieve university strategic goals, including maximizing net tuition revenue.
Responsibilities:
- Develop annual plans for financial aid for all schools of the university, including awarding strategies, communications plans, etc.
- Oversee the awarding of financial aid to each applicant (and make some awards).
- Hire, train, supervise, and review staff.
- Assure compliance with all governmental regulations.
- Manage the institutional financial aid budget.
- Analyze all operations in light of goal achievement, changing governmental regulations, and changing institutional goals; report and recommend changes.
- Counsel students and parents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Proven leadership ability, capable of effectively managing change, inspiring hope in subordinates.
- Aware of personal strengths and limitations and aware of the complementary strengths needed by other financial aid staff to develop a well-balanced team.
- Excellent understanding of the federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and policies.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, G-Mail, and Banner financial aid software.
- Experienced in conflict resolution theory and practice.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, public settings).
- Able to handle and work with confidential data.
- Prioritizes tasks and manages time effectively.
- Listens to others, responds with empathy, truth, and respect.
- Must have good problem-solving skills and be able to anticipate potential problems.
- Speaks clearly and distinctly in person and over the phone.
Experience: 5+ years of progressively responsible financial aid experience.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Additional Information: Applicant must be able to bend and stoop to file documents in four-drawer file cabinets; able to lift boxes weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional travel for training and conferences. Must not be in default on any Title IV loans. Must comply with the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct. Must comply with Bethel's Code of Conduct Governing Educational Loan Activities.
