Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to lead the maintenance, operation, and efficiency of all building systems within our apartment building located in Washington, DC. Reporting directly to the Property Manager, the Chief Engineer will oversee the maintenance, repair, and ensure the comfort, safety, and satisfaction of residents and tenants. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as extensive knowledge of building automation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engineering Systems Management:
    · Oversee all building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and mechanical systems.
    · Monitor and maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance with safety standards.
    · Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance tasks to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
  2. Maintenance and Repairs:
    · Lead prompt response to maintenance requests from residents and tenants, troubleshooting issues and performing repairs as necessary.
    · Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and services, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
    · Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inventory.
  3. Safety and Compliance:
    · Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
    · Conduct routine safety inspections and implement corrective measures as needed to mitigate risks and hazards.
    · Ensure that all engineering systems and equipment meet or exceed regulatory requirements for safety and environmental sustainability.
  4. Team Leadership and Training:
    · Provide strong leadership and support to engineering staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
    · Conduct training sessions for team members on proper maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
    · Collaborate with the Property Manager to develop and implement strategies for optimizing team performance and efficiency.
  5. Emergency Response:
    · Participate in the building's emergency response plan, leading evacuations, fire drills, and other emergency procedures as needed.
    · Maintain readiness to respond to after-hours emergencies, including weekends and holidays, to ensure the safety and security of residents and property.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building maintenance or engineering, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Expert knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with residents, tenants, contractors, and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
