Job Description The Director of Student and Accessibility Services oversees implementation of accommodations and services for students with disabilities under the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA) of 2008. Manages strategic planning and establishes, implements, and oversees department policies and procedures. Plans, allocates, and directs budget planning and allocation. Manages staff and addresses complex employee issues and concerns. The Director of Student Accessibility Services, in conjunction with the Office of Institutional Equity and UMS legal counsel, develops and implements the campus policies and procedures for compliance with federal and state disability laws. The director oversees coordination of accommodations to over 1200 students with disabilities and direct services to eligible students. This involves determining reasonable accommodations, informing and training faculty and staff, and coordinating accommodations and disability support services within the University community. The director maintains liaison with all levels of UMaine faculty, administration, professional, and classified staff, University of Maine System (Chancellor's Office, legal counsel, disability support personnel at all campuses and centers) and outside agencies (professional associations, social service agencies; public school systems, State Department of Education, and health care providers). The director maintains relationships with nationally recognized professional organizations in the field of higher education disability services. Typical hiring range for this position is $68,000 to $80,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Five years of progressive experience including successful experience serving students with disabilities. Excellent communication, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Extensive knowledge of types of disabilities and of disability law. Knowledge of adaptive technology and equipment. Preferred : Five years of progressive experience working with students in higher education that includes staff supervision, program development and budget management. Strong working knowledge of adaptive technology policy and equipment. Experience with enterprise systems and integrated disability management software. Knowledge and experience with program assessment. Collaborative individual who regularly reaches out to others and forms productive partnerships.
