The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Microelectronics Design and Applications business pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefining the leading edge of exotic new technologies in computation, system security, and AI. You will work in a fast-paced team environment alongside many scientists and engineers to make these solutions a reality.

The Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA) team is seeking a data scientist who will make significant and ongoing contributions to the maturation of our data-driven processes. You will collect, process and present information, including actionable insights, from multiple disparate data sets. The ideal candidate possesses both the analytical aptitude and problem-solving skillset necessary for extracting value from a collection of novel data sets. In addition to being a highly proficient data analyst, this candidate is expected to foster a data pipeline by engineering analytics that lend themselves to automation and scale.

This position requires work 100% on-site located at Linthicum, MD and/or Annapolis Junction, MD.

Your responsibilities:

1. Analyze multiple data sources in detail to identify trends and patterns using engineering fundamentals.
2. Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
3. Summarize and socialize data, make conclusions and provide direction on problems identified.
4. Effectively generate ideas and support building tools in order to automate analysis processes.
5. Strong communication & visualization of the data to articulate the findings.
6. Develop and implement data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
7. Design, model, and document the logical and conceptual relationship of data and database changes for metrics and analytics.

What you need to be successful in the role:

1. Comfort with requirements-analysis and stakeholder engagement.
2. Strong problem-solving skills and root-cause analysis to ensure that curated data is accurate, repeatable, and explainable.
3. Solid communication skills (written, verbal, and visual).
4. Ability to communicate data and engineering analysis regarding conclusions that were reached.
5. Ability to create and present data reports to support investigations.
6. Excellent attention to detail.
7. Development/programming of tools to improve pipeline efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.
8. Prioritization skills to manage workload and make sound decisions for assigned team's data analysis activities.

Basic Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in a technical area with 8 years of relevant experience (6 years with technical MS; 3 years with a PhD in related field).
2. Knowledge of data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques.
3. Experience with common data science toolkits such as Python and Tableau.
4. Experience using Python packages: pandas, numpy, matplotlib.
5. Experience developing and presenting data visualizations for scientific analysis.
6. Able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) clearance with Polygraph. US Citizen is a requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Product Lifecycle experience.
2. Proficient using query languages such as SQL.
3. Experience mentoring and leading peers in data science projects.
4. Strong applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
5. JMP proficiency (SAS statistical tool) and experience scripting in JSL.
6. MATLAB experience.

Salary Range: $139,700 - $209,500

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
