Chief Scientific Officer

The Chief Scientific Officer is responsible for developing and leading the strategic scientific direction in support of the Nucleus RadioPharma mission. This individual will actively engage with and develop scientific partnerships with academic and other organizations/institutions to remain on the leading edge of scientific discovery, in addition to providing depth of understanding of the product capabilities to the commercial business aspect. This role involves overseeing scientific research projects, product development, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Description
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partners with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Leadership team to fulfill the strategic mission of Nucleus RadioPharma from the strategic scientific and product development perspective.
- Leads the strategic client engagement for the scientific and technology teams on behalf of the organization.
- Leads a team of internal scientists responsible for the effective technology transfer of processes into commercial manufacturing for both internally and externally developed processes.
- Leads development of manufacturing methods that can be adequately scaled up or out based on the stage of development and the intended product delivery strategy.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in science, technology, engineering, and development related to the organization's industry to ensure competitive advantage and successful engagement of product development.
- Drives innovation and continuous improvement in scientific processes and methodologies.
- Understands and keeps current on drug landscape and supports new business opportunities that leverage the company’s scientific expertise in partnership with the commercial team.
- Provides leadership and oversight of technical capabilities to meet future radiopharmaceutical drug product needs (alternate isotopes, targeting agents, delivery systems, etc.).
- Conducts or acquires cost analysis for development projects; prepares or delegates preparation of schedule of project completion dates.
- Ensures that departmental decisions such as budget, staffing, development, organization, hardware acquisitions, and facilities are in line with the organization's business plan and vision.
- Leads the team through performance management, recruitment and retention efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced degree in scientific field, such as a Master’s or Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or related discipline required.
- At least 15 years of related experience, including leadership, required.
- Experience in a CDMO or CMO or BioTech environment required.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, management, suppliers, and customers.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to create, format, analyze and share information in spreadsheets using logical, statistical, and mathematical functions.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities effectively and problem solve, including early identification of issues/problems that may arise.
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and collaboration skills, and ability to interact professionally with a wide range of individuals and organizations.
- Ability to work as a team member, socialize ideas and build successful working relationships.
- Analytical with an ability to problem-solve, and strong technical proficiencies in Microsoft Office products, and familiarity with leading project management software tools and software.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction, and drive deliverables through to completion by deadlines provided.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to high quality work.
- Ability to work sitting and standing for extended periods, grasping/gripping, fine motor control with hands.
- Ability to lift/move, transport, position equipment and work items weighing up to 30 pounds on a minimal basis.
- Extended hours, shift and weekend work may be required from time to time.
- Travel up to 50% expected as position and company grows.
