Director of Project Finance – Renewables
Leap29 is offering an exciting opportunity for a Director of Project Finance to join a well-respected renewables company specializing in Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role, based in San Francisco, involves leading the financing of large-scale renewable energy projects.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee key corporate and project finance transactions, including equity, debt, and tax equity, with potential capital from government and strategic sources.
- Serve as the internal project manager, aligning stakeholders, managing budgets, and keeping project timelines on track.
- Lead tax credit monetization strategies and address working capital needs for industrial decarbonization projects.
- Manage all aspects of transaction execution—marketing, term sheet negotiations, financial modeling, and investor due diligence.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with debt, equity, and tax equity investors.
- Develop complex financial models independently and guide the team in using them.
- Collaborate with leadership to create innovative financing strategies and prepare marketing materials for capital raising.
- Report directly to the MD and C-level management and the Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA required, MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in project or corporate finance, including at least 3 years in solar or storage projects.
- Proven expertise in managing relationships with project sponsors, buyers, IPPs, tax equity investors, and lenders.
- Strong knowledge of project finance for solar PV plants and BESS, with the ability to evaluate risks and develop finance solutions.
- Proficient in Excel for creating financial models to assess project economics and PPA bids.
- Experience in working with project developers and navigating RFP processes.
- Demonstrated success in sourcing investors, managing due diligence, and closing complex transactions.
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with senior leadership across cultures.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
