Associate Dean of Research
University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing
The Associate Dean of Research is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of the UCSF School of Nursing Office of Research. This position's overarching goal is to facilitate the success of faculty research and provide a vision and strategic direction for the School in a research-intensive environment. The School consists of 4 academic departments, and the Institute of Health and Aging (organized research unit).

We invite applications for the position of Associate Dean of Research in the School of Nursing.

This is a full-time faculty position with approximately 50% effort focused on the role and responsibilities of the Associate Dean for Research and the remaining 50% effort focused within their designated department. The Associate Dean has a dual reporting role to the Dean of the School of Nursing and their designated Department Chair.
The Associate Dean of Research (ADR) provides strategic leadership for the School of Nursing Office of Research, while serving as a senior advisor to the dean regarding research and maintaining capacity to be the number one NIH-funded school of nursing. The ADR will be a member of the executive administration team in the school. In pursuing the position responsibilities, the ADR is expected to work collaboratively with the faculty, Dean, Department Chairs, other Associate Deans, staff in the School of Nursing Office of Research and other UCSF campus leaders in research.
Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing an innovative plan to increase success of the School of Nursing Office of Research.
- School-wide research policy, planning, initiatives and coordination, to increase the breadth, depth and funding for research growth.
- Research mentorship of faculty, particularly junior faculty. Facilitate research collaborations between the faculty within the school and between the school and other research units on campus.
- School-wide assurance of scientific integrity training and management of conflict of interest.
- Consultation on extramural grant proposals with attention to research subject protection and other risk management review.
- Peer review and allocation of school-wide intramural grant awards in consultation with the faculty's Research Committee.
- Liaison between the School and UCSF Vice Chancellor for Research and the UCSF Office of Research.
- Representation of the School's research innovations and opportunities to VC for Research, UCSF Campus and Health partners, and external funding agencies.
- Promotion of international and cooperative research arrangements with public and private agencies.
Requirements
- Candidate must have earned a doctoral degree and have an academic research career with grants funded by NIH and/or other outside agencies.
- Candidate must have expertise in health or healthcare-related research, an independent funded program of research, have national or international recognition for professional competence, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate level and have a distinguished personal record of peer-reviewed publications.
- Candidates must have demonstrated leadership and experience in research and academic administration.
- Candidate must have demonstrated experience in interprofessional collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of current and future directions for health science research.
- Candidates should have a good understanding of federal and foundation funding opportunities.
- Cognizant of State and Federal regulations and compliance requirements on human, animal and biological safety; conflict of interest, scientific ethics, patent, and other intellectual property matters is preferred.
- Complex knowledge of nursing science research is preferred.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $123,100 - 333,700. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
