VP - Enterprise Architecture Practice
ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT Under the direction of Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the VP - Enterprise Architecture Practice will play a critical role in defining and driving the technology strategy and architecture for VyStar Credit Union. Reporting directly to the CTO, this leadership position requires deep expertise in the Banking and Financial Services industry, with a strong focus on developing and executing comprehensive technology architecture strategy and roadmaps that align with the organization's business objectives, be able to drive application rationalization and have a deep understanding of modern Microservices architecture, API design/management and technology architecture frameworks like TOGAF. The VP - Enterprise Architecture Practice plans, leads, coordinates, and directs all daily activities of the architecture team and provides direction and solutions that enhance mission-critical services to enable forward-looking technology to deliver on business capabilities and outcomes ensuring world-class financial services to our members. The VP - Enterprise Architecture Practice ensures alignment of the credit union’s mission, strategy, and processes to the IT strategy using a variety of architectural models. Advises the Chief Technology Officer on matters of technical strategy. Helps set and evolve IT vision and direction and is responsible for championing change and building strategic partnerships with business leaders, colleagues, and vendors. Expands the credit union’s use of technology as a strategic enabler of goals and objectives. Responsible for the most important and complex projects and oversees the actions of other architects. Involved in the development of policies, standards and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation and use of information technology within the credit union. Essential Job Functions
Enterprise Architecture:
Develop and maintain a long-term technology architecture roadmap that supports the credit union's strategic goals and business initiatives. Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to identify opportunities for innovation and competitive advantage including AI/ML and Data. In collaboration with technology and business leaders, develops and maintains a technology strategy and roadmap that supplements the overall strategy for VyStar. Establishes roles and responsibilities, value framework, accountability model, engagement model, technology roadmaps and metrics reporting. The team also provides tactical support for key projects to support complex design and/or validate alignment to architectural standards to ensure functionality, scalability, performance, security, and maintainability. Leads software, systems and technology evaluations. Understands risk management best practices and ensures appropriate mitigation strategies are in place for the department. Ensures operational controls are appropriate and regulatory changes are implemented timely. Application Rationalization:
Conduct a thorough assessment of the credit union's existing application portfolio to identify opportunities for consolidation, modernization, or replacement. Develop a phased approach to application rationalization that minimizes risk and maximizes efficiency. Work with application development teams to ensure that new and existing applications adhere to established architectural standards. Architecture Framework (TOGAF, COBIT):
Implement and maintain an industry-based enterprise architecture framework like TOGAF and COBIT to provide a structured approach to technology planning and governance. Apply and promote the use of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, COBIT) to ensure robust, scalable, and secure technology solutions. Educate and train stakeholders on the benefits of using the architecture framework. Ensure that the architecture framework is aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Team Leadership:
Lead a team of architects and ensure that they are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to deliver on their objectives. Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the architecture team. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior architects and analysts. Ensures all department staff complies with credit union policies and procedures. Technology Governance:
Establish and enforce technology and AI governance policies and procedures to ensure that the credit union's technology investments are aligned with its strategic objectives. Review and approve technology projects and initiatives to ensure that they comply with architectural standards and best practices. Stays abreast of emerging technologies, changes in the industry and vendor landscape by researching publications, attending conferences, and participating in advisory boards. Administers an annual operating and capital budget for the department keeping actual expenses in line with the forecasts. Develops and maintains departmental procedures, frameworks, standards, and guidelines. Miscellaneous Job Responsibilities:
Drive the creation of future-forward technology architectures that support business growth, transformation, and innovation. Engage with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of technology initiatives with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to inform strategic decision-making and maintain a competitive edge. Build framework for application portfolio analysis and establish decision criteria to select applications best suited for cloud migration based on Total Cost of Ownership, workload profile, data gravity, network latency and information security needs. Collaborate with aligned architects, engineering, application managers, project managers, and infrastructure teams to drive emerging technology standards to industry best practices. Advanced knowledge of technology architecture, with proven design skills. Familiarity with system development life cycle management, IT services management, IT infrastructure and operations, and IT Enterprise Architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and COBIT. Strong knowledge of business and technology ecosystems, SaaS (Software as a Service), IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service), SOA, APIs, microservices, design patterns, and systems integration concepts. Understanding of waterfall and agile software development, application lifecycle management (ALM) practices, and information management and data governance principles. Strong knowledge of networking, computing platform, storage, database, security, middleware, network and systems management, and related infrastructure technologies and practices. Demonstrated competence in identifying risk areas and proactively determining appropriate mitigation strategies. Proven track record of leading and influencing, including leading and mentoring architects and other technology professionals and managers, positively motivating teams, and instilling accountability for on-time, within budget delivery. Ability to develop and manage processes that motivate staff to achieve desired results. Demonstrated competence in managing the work of vendors and/or subcontractors, completing vendor negotiations and contract development. Experience in banking or financial services. Broad knowledge and understanding of current industry trends and developments in new technologies. Experience with Microsoft Visio, Project Online, Team Foundation Server, Power Point, Excel, Windows 10, Windows Server, SharePoint. Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in information technology or business administration preferred. 10+ years of experience in information technology management positions in Enterprise Architecture, Data Management or Engineering fields required. 10+ years of experience in architecting, designing, developing, integrating, and managing complex software and systems solutions. 10+ years of progressive IT architecture and leadership experience. Certification in TOGAF or a similar enterprise architecture framework. Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. Experience with agile development methodologies.
