Job Summary We are seeking an experienced
Program Manager III
to lead the development of advanced picosatellite systems for military and NASA applications. This role requires a seasoned program manager with deep experience in the aerospace and defense industries, particularly with small satellite programs tailored to military or NASA objectives. The Program Manager III will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of picosatellite projects, ensuring they meet strategic objectives, budget, and schedule constraints while adhering to rigorous industry standards. Primary Responsibilities Program Planning & Strategy: Develop and execute program plans that align with military-space objectives, including technical, schedule, and financial goals. Define and communicate program objectives, project milestones, and deliverables with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with mission-specific requirements. Act as the primary point of contact for clients, defense partners, and stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships and proactively managing expectations. Coordinate with military and government agencies to ensure compliance with security protocols, regulatory requirements, and project-specific standards. Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Develop, track, and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial objectives while maintaining cost control. Oversee the financial performance of the program, preparing regular financial reports and ensuring the project stays within budget constraints. Identify and proactively manage program risks, including technical, financial, and operational risks, to ensure timely resolution and project continuity. Coordinate issue resolution across cross-functional teams, implementing corrective actions to maintain project integrity and on-time delivery. Team Leadership & Coordination: Lead cross-functional teams, including engineering, systems integration, and testing teams, to deliver program objectives. Foster a collaborative team environment, promoting accountability and facilitating communication between all project participants. Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all program activities adhere to regulatory and compliance standards, including ITAR, DFARS, and other defense-related guidelines. Familiar with NASA standards for space flight, including requirements and rules associated with launch, sustainment, and deorbit of satellites. Maintain thorough and accurate program documentation, including project plans, schedules, risk logs, and performance reports, for auditing and compliance purposes. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with small satellite programs for defense or intelligence agencies. Prior experience with complex development programs on very tight timelines. Knowledge of cybersecurity and space situational awareness considerations. Active security clearance or eligibility to obtain clearance on short notice. Will require frequent travel to visit customers. Position may be based out of Chatsworth CA, Huntsville AL, Washington DC, Melbourne FL, or Denver/Colorado Springs CO area. No remote work option available. Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Business, or a related field or Master’s degree in similar fields. Experience:
8+ years of experience in program management within the aerospace, defense, or satellite industries, with a proven track record of managing complex projects from inception to completion. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of satellite systems and small satellite architecture, particularly within military and space contexts. Proficiency in program management tools (e.g., MS Project) and a solid foundation in Earned Value Management (EVM) practices. Familiarity with defense acquisition frameworks, including DFARS, ITAR, NASA, and related military standards. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a detail-oriented approach. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical documentation. Ability to lead and work effectively within cross-functional teams. Must be a US citizen or be authorized to work in the United States.
