Job Overview:
A law firm seeks an experienced attorney to join its team in Fairfax County, Virginia, specializing in complex civil litigation cases. The ideal candidate will have experience in handling matters related to construction defects, consumer fraud, class actions, product liability, and toxic mold. The attorney will play a key role in drafting legal documents, conducting research, and representing clients in both state and federal courts. The firm offers a collaborative environment with opportunities to work independently and share in fees earned on cases that originate with the attorney.
Duties:
Draft legal documents, including motions, complaints, and responsive pleadings.
Assist with the discovery process by taking and defending depositions, and responding to and drafting interrogatories, requests for production, and subpoenas.
Conduct legal research on complex topics relevant to the case at hand.
Review, analyze, and organize case documents.
Prepare for and attend court hearings, mediations, and trials as required.
Meet with potential clients to conduct initial consultations and assess case viability.
Manage case files, track deadlines, and update case management software (Clio).
Handle electronic filing of documents in both state and federal courts.
Coordinate with colleagues and clients to ensure the timely progression of cases.
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of litigation experience, with a preference for experience in federal court.
Licensed to practice law in Virginia (required); additional licensure in Georgia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with class action litigation is highly preferred.
Proficiency with office software (Office 365), legal research tools, and document management systems (e.g., Everlaw, Relativity).
Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work flexible hours and manage overtime as needed.
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
Admission to the Virginia State Bar (required).
Additional bar memberships in Georgia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia (a plus).
Skills:
Proficient in legal research and writing.
Experience in drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs.
Strong deposition skills, both taking and defending.
Familiarity with docketing, deadline management, and case management software (Clio).
Ability to manage a caseload effectively with attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
Experience with electronic filing in state and federal courts.
