MN18 Position Summary Information Summary:
The Dean of the Bitonte College of Dentistry will be a proven academic leader with demonstrated ability to engage with faculty and staff constituencies to develop and execute a vision in support of the college’s broad and innovative educational, research, clinical, and public service missions. The Dean is responsible for providing overall leadership, vision, and strategy for the Bitonte College of Dentistry and is expected to engage in productive collaboration with other members of the academic and administrative leadership team both within the Bitonte College of Dentistry, across the University, and within the community at large. Principal Functional Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategic Vision:
Serve as the chief executive and academic officer for the College of Dentistry, provide administrative and academic leadership for the programs and missions of the college. Provide direction and leadership in the development of strategy, leveraging organizational strengths and relationships to execute on key operating/financial metrics and market growth. Develop and execute resource plans and budgets to further the college mission and, concurrently, be fiscally efficient and effective to ensure a positive revenue status for the college. External Relations and Community Engagement:
Strengthen and/or create strong and sustainable partnerships with regional health care systems that will bring value to both NEOMED and the health systems. Engage in meaningful fundraising activities to encourage philanthropic giving to the college; act as the ‘face and voice’ of the college to external, public and community constituents. Employee and Student Success:
Openly support policies and practices that recognize the importance of recruitment and retention, development, diversity, and talent management to ensure the leadership, staff, and faculty required for a successful college. Miscellaneous Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications DDS or DMD from an accredited college or university with decanal experience in dental education. Minimum of five years experience in dental education administration and leadership positions. Licensed or eligible for a dental license in the State of Ohio. Eligible for appointment at the rank of Full Professor in the Bitonte College of Dentistry. Preferred Qualifications Additional Ph.D. degree. Physical Requirements Must be able to utilize a phone, computer, and other office equipment. The ability to develop, sustain, and grow a comprehensive dental research program that focuses on the major dental issues confronting residents of Northeast Ohio. A demonstrated commitment to enhancing student, staff, and faculty diversity and fostering a culture of inclusion. Strong managerial, operational, and fiscal acumen. Recognized as a respected member of the dental education and professional community. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain open, transparent, and effective lines of communication. Ability to build trust and transparency across all internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated experience in sound program and resource management as well as effective budget development and execution. Passion for teaching and learning as well as for the development of students, staff, faculty, and academic programs. A collaborative consensus-builder and team-player who is politically savvy. Possesses a style that fosters and supports change and innovation, with an ability to delegate yet maintain high standards. An innovative change agent who is driven by transformation to educate future leaders in dental education, research, and service.
