The Senior Risk Officer – Commercial and Industrial (C&I), U.S. Region reports to the U.S. Head of Risk Oversight & Segment Risk and is accountable for leading the Segment Risk Team’s activities covering C&I, and in supporting the U.S. Head of Risk Oversight & Segment Risk in all Day-to-Day Risk Oversight including Operational and Long Term Strategic needs within the Segment Risk Management Department, including but not exclusive to the following:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead and direct activities related to Commercial Real Estate within Segment Risk, drive a culture of continuous improvement, through identification and implementation of resources and processes including:
Risk Identification and Measurement Framework
Risk Policy and Governance
Risk Appetite
Functional oversight including Information Security, Cyber Risk Management, Vendor Risk Management and Operational Resiliency
Compendium Reporting (Advisory) Market Development
Lead and direct activities related to continuous improvement and expansion of Risk Oversight, through identification and implementation of resources and processes including:
Enterprise and Operational Risk Frameworks/Policies review/challenge
Change Initiative Risk Assessments
Segment Risk Statements and Product Risk Statement reviews/challenges
Control Risk Self Assessments reviews/challenges
Assist Head of Segment Risk with Integration of CIBC US Risk Management Organizational and Governance related activities, including strategy and long-term implementation.
Provide advisory support to the first line with emerging Enterprise-Wide Risk Management-related regulatory expectations from the FRB, FDIC and all other applicable agencies.
Conduct risk-based 360 review of C&I, thereby developing a comprehensive compendium to effectively aggregate, monitor and report risks across C&I.
Provide qualitative input into dashboard risk levels and outlooks.
Enhance, execute and deliver an effective challenge framework that will consider a broad range of potential outcomes and actions to assess based on different scenarios on a continuous basis.
KEY CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Regular interaction and close partnering with CIBC Risk Management and Compliance groups
Close working relationship with the Chief Risk Officer in the U.S.
Regular interaction with leaders across CIBC and U.S. C&I Line of Business
Interaction with U.S. Regulatory Agencies, External/Internal Auditors, Risk Management Association, etc.

This person is responsible to lead and direct activities related to continuous improvement and expansion for all assigned areas herein for the US Region Risk Management organization. Responsibilities may include interactions with Global CIBC Leadership, US Regional Leadership across all Lines of Business, and Regulators.
AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS
The role is a key contact for Segment Risk- C&I coverage and the horizontal connectivity across ERM, ORM, Conduct Risk, Stress Testing, Market/Liquidity Risk, and Credit Risk related matters within the US Region and therefore is accountable for ensuring the team adheres to CIBC’s applicable policies and meet US regulatory requirements.
Authorizing expenses and overseeing budgets according to applicable CIBC policies.
KEY CAPABILITIES
Undergraduate Degree / Preferred to have Masters Degree
A minimum of 10 years experience
Deep understanding of risk management theory and practices.
Comprehensive management skills sufficient to lead/motivate reports and peers, as appropriate.
Extensive working knowledge of the external financial and regulatory environment from a risk perspective.
Advanced presentation/interactive skills to clearly articulate complex conceptual information/ideas.
Excellent writing skills sufficient to prepare interpretative, analytical and creative materials involving precise articulation of ideas and opinions.
Problem solving skills sufficient to select and modify general approaches and solutions suitable for given problems or issues.
Demonstrate integrity, possessing a strong stewardship and corporate governance profile with an ability to bring a mature perspective to discussions, as this position involves the interface with colleagues at all levels.
Provide support to the Segment Risk group, as well as technical advice and guidance on complex and/or unique issues and recommendations for strategy.
