Summary Restaurant Brands International is seeking an on-site Principal Full Stack Software Engineer for both backend and frontend development, supporting the research and development (R&D) group. As a Principal Engineer in the R&D group, you will join other principal engineers in driving technical innovation and strategy while providing high-level guidance to the team and proactively identifying opportunities to enhance RBI’s products and platforms. This role requires a visionary approach to both feature development and architectural design, anticipating future needs while fostering collaboration across teams and stakeholders. This role provides a unique chance to work on cutting-edge machine learning (ML) and AI-driven initiatives that will help shape the future of quick-service restaurants (QSR). You will be involved in AI-enhanced product development, harnessing the latest advancements in generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and deep learning. Roles and Responsibilities Serve as a technical leader and strategic advisor, meeting with new and existing R&D group product stakeholders to gather comprehensive frontend and backend requirements. Translate high-level business needs into measurable and scalable technical deliverables, ensuring alignment with company-wide goals and priorities. Use ML models and AI tools to predict, optimize, and personalize digital customer journeys and restaurant operations. Architect and oversee the implementation of complex frontend and backend solutions. Collaborate with R&D peers on both new product development and maintenance of existing systems. Draft and review detailed design documents for critical features, ensuring best practices. Contribute to company-wide DevEx and be thoughtful about how engineers in any part of the company can work better together. Required Skills 6+ years of experience building and architecting Node.js APIs, ideally with exposure to integrating AI/ML models into APIs for enhanced functionality. 6+ years of experience building and leading front-end development with React, focusing on implementing dynamic user interfaces that incorporate real-time data. 6+ years of experience building AWS services, in order of priority: AWS Lambda, AWS API Gateway, AWS DynamoDB, and AWS RDS, with an emphasis on deploying AI/ML models in AWS environments. Proven ability to independently deliver and oversee the delivery of high-quality features and systems under strict deadlines. Deep experience designing system architectures that incorporate data pipelines, frontend frameworks, and backend systems. Bonus Hands-on experience with generative AI, including LLMs, SLMs, fine-tuning, RAG, embeddings, vectorization, and prompting. Classical machine learning experience with deep learning, neural networks, optimization algorithms, and their applications in areas such as demand forecasting, personalized recommendations, or dynamic pricing. Expertise in AI-enhanced data visualization tools, preferably in React, using libraries like Recharts, D3, and Victory.
