Advanced Technologies & Public Service Careers Position Summary: Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instructor to join our Advanced Manufacturing faculty team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in advanced manufacturing processes, with specialized expertise in EV battery manufacturing, semiconductors, robotics, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and mechatronics. The instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, developing course materials, and preparing students for careers in advanced manufacturing industries. This position will last for three semesters: Winter 2025, Fall 2025, Winter 2026 semester. Scheduled to start January 2, 2025. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Instructional Duties:
Develop and teach courses in advanced manufacturing, including but not limited to EV battery manufacturing, semiconductor processes, robotics, PLCs, CAD, and mechatronics. Design and implement hands-on lab experiences that reinforce theoretical knowledge and align with industry standards. Assess and evaluate student performance, providing feedback to promote academic and professional growth. Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and ensure student engagement. Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to design, update, and refine curriculum that meets the evolving needs of the advanced manufacturing sector. Provide leadership in identifying trends and working with other faculty to develop new curriculum to address these trends. Integrate emerging technologies and practices into the curriculum to prepare students for cutting-edge careers. Ensure that course materials are current, relevant, and aligned with industry certifications and accreditation standards.
Industry and Community Engagement:
Establish and maintain strong connections with local and regional manufacturing industries to stay informed of trends, technologies, and workforce needs. Facilitate partnerships with industry to provide students with internship, co-op, and job placement opportunities. Participate in community outreach and recruitment activities to promote WCC’s Advanced Manufacturing programs.
Professional Development:
Stay current with advancements in advanced manufacturing technologies and educational methodologies. Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences, workshops, and industry certifications. Contribute to the academic community through research, publication, or involvement in professional organizations.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progress in the College’s learning management system. Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and college-wide initiatives. Assist with student advising, mentoring, and support services as needed. Work with other faculty and administrators in the promotion and marketing of the Advanced Manufacturing programs. Participate in program level learning assessment and suggest changes to improve student learning. Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences on-campus or online. Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times. Mentor part-time faculty teaching courses within the Department. Participate in college professional development activities. Other duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule: Hours vary based on class schedules. Physical Demands: • Move about 2/3 of the time and be stationary about 1/3 of the time. • Lift and move objects of 50 pounds. • Operate machinery in a manufacturing environment. • Tolerate frequent exposure to fluids and noise which are common to the industry. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Earned Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in a related field required, including Mechatronics, Electrical, or Robotics. Minimum 5 years full-time work experience required. An associate degree in a related field may be considered with a minimum of 7 years full-time work experience. Must have computer skills and experience with software products. Available to instruct days, nights, and weekends and available year-round for events and college business. Must be able to meet the physical demands listed above. Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at a community college. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures. Posting Date:
