Position Description
To lead and develop the worship ministry of Immanuel Community Reformed Church for the glory of God and in support of our mission and core values.
Position Requirements
While this position requires a high level of musical talent and leadership ability, the most important expectation is that the Director of Worship lives a life that prioritizes and exhibits a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. Resources and opportunities such as a weekly Sabbath, time off, and professional development will be prioritized to ensure the Director of Worship is able to live and work with a healthy rhythm that cultivates a rich spiritual life.
Areas of Responsibility:
Worship Planning
Lead the recruitment and development (musically and spiritually) of the Praise Team.
Lead weekly practices with the Praise Team.
Collaborate with the Lead Pastor to design and plan the songs and liturgy of worship services in a way that fits with the themes of the current sermon series and liturgical calendar.
Manage and develop Immanuel’s worship song library adding at least 6-8 songs a year in connection with sermon series themes and in accordance with the RCA’s standards and confessions as advised and approved by the Lead Pastor.
Grow the worship of Immanuel to be more contemporary in style while also maintaining the rich tradition of the Church’s historic hymns and liturgy.
Plan and coordinate special music as necessary and accompany other musicians when necessary.
Plan and lead the music for special services such as Christmas Eve, funerals or weddings when necessary.
Worship Leading
Lead the music and singing of the Sunday morning worship service in a way that fits with the themes of the morning and cultivates, by the work of the Holy Spirit, deep and transformative worship in the life of Immanuel.
Work with the Lead Pastor and Praise Team members to share the responsibility of leading prayers, liturgy, and Scripture reading during worship on Sunday mornings.
Administrative and Executive
Dream up, work toward, and accomplish yearly goals for the improvement of worship at Immanuel.
Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly staff suppers.
Maintain and manage the church’s worship related subscriptions such as ProPresenter and CCLI.
Work with the praise team leadership of Siloam, the Nepali congregation that shares our sanctuary on Sunday mornings, to ensure equipment is maintained and stored properly.
Engage in yearly professional development as your schedule and stipend allows.
Oversee and manage the yearly budget of the Worship Ministry Team.
Collaborate with the Secretary and Digital Ministries Director to publicize announcements pertaining to worship in the bulletin, newsletter, and social media.
Professional Development and Vacation
It is expected that the Director of Worship live a life with healthy rhythms that cultivate a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ through work, rest, and play, and therefore the following benefits will be made:
A weekly day (other than Sunday) will be honored as the Director’s Sabbath.
A yearly professional development stipend for further training and education is available and is strongly encouraged to be utilized. 1 Week and 1 Sunday a year may be used for the purpose of professional development.
4 weeks and 4 Sundays may be used for vacation a year.
Supervision
The Director of Worship is responsible to the Lead Pastor.
An annual review will be conducted with the Lead Pastor at the end of each program year.
Periodic reviews will be conducted by the Lead Pastor on an informal basis for purposes of progress and development.
A confidential request, complaint, or appeal may be made to the Personnel Team.
