Simulation Program Director for Nursing and Health Sciences Grade 16

VSC UP SUP Bargaining Unit; Full-time; Exempt

BASIC FUNCTION

Management of the simulation program for the nursing and allied health programs at Vermont State University (VTSU). The simulation program is provided at multiple sites throughout the state of Vermont. Management of the program includes promoting the use of simulation in providing the VTSU nursing/allied health curricula, supporting simulation delivery based on evidence-based practice, creating partnerships within VTSU and with outside agencies, and overseeing the simulation program budget.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Promotion and Coordination of the Simulation Program

Coordinate simulation activities for multiple VTSU locations statewide, which may require significant travel throughout Vermont.

Coordinate support related to delivery of simulation, including maintenance and repairs of equipment, developing appropriate simulation learning activities, and implementing faculty and staff training in the simulation process.

Obtain data related to simulation use and outcomes for decision-making about the VTSU simulation program.

Direct troubleshooting of basic issues related to the technology of the simulators.

Work with faculty to integrate the use of simulation into learning strategies across all curricula.

Participate in product training and maintain the technical expertise required to effectively manage multiple simulation venues.

Confer with the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Associate Dean of Nursing, Nursing Regional Directors, and university administration to plan and evaluate simulation program goals and resolve problems.

Create partnerships within and outside of the university to promote the use of simulation.

Promote the use of simulation through tours, consultation, and attendance at local, regional, and national simulation-related events.

Manage simulation services involving outside organizations.

Work with other university departments to develop opportunities for simulation in their programs.

BUDGET MANAGEMENT

Develop/implement strategies that contribute to the sustainability of the university simulation program.

Make informed recommendations for budget expenditures, data-based assessments of faculty needs, and current equipment status, including purchases of major equipment and materials.

Work with university personnel to seek and develop grant funding opportunities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Direction is received from the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences of the VTSU nursing programs.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Direct supervision of simulation program staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate degree with a major in nursing or related field and a minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience. A minimum of 3 years of simulation experience using high-fidelity simulation.

A willingness to learn multiple simulation formats.

National certification related to simulation or willingness to attend a certification course within 1 year of hire.

Able to effectively use instructional technology.

Possess excellent communication skills (written and oral).

Management skills including budget management.

Unencumbered Vermont RN license required or similar health-related licensure/certification.

Flexibility in work schedule required due to travel.

Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
